Decided on my vocal mic/pre combo: 2247 and ME-1NV

So after much research I've decided on the Peluso 2247 and Great River ME-1NV.

I think they should compliment each other well since the 2247 is dark and has a big round bottom, and the GR is clean and brite.

What do you guys think of this combo for male hiphop vocals?

I know Tony will suggest a better Neve clone like the Brent Averill, but for the price and considering what I've been using (C414-RNP), I think I will be satisfied with the results.

If any one is interested in selling either let me know.
Also looking for some auralex 2" foam and bass traps.

The 22 47 is not dark.

Nor is the Great River a Neve clone.

I wouldnt call a great river clean and bright either...I call it quite colored.

Maybee yourthinking of the Grace 101?

and which 2247 are you getting? short body, se or le?

I thought you said the 2247 le was dark Tony? It is quite a bit darker and exsentuates the low end more than the vtb though right?

I shouldn't have said that. What I meant is that Tony and some other heads on the board will probably suggest A neve clone over the Great River.

Hmm. That is quite the opposite of most reviews I have read and heard.

The difference is the tube correct? People have suggested the all three. Short body, SE and LE. How do they differ in sound? I know the LE is a little more expensive.

I'm at the point right now where I think that with those peices I will be sattisfied. I mean, I've been using an RNP and a C414 which I cant stand. I like the results from SM7b's more then the C414's.

What do you guys think? I'm treating my room with some Auralex foam, moving blankets and some bass traps. And running the 2247 and Great River.

I would try getting the pre, trying it with the 414, and then deciding on a mic.

I've used both the 414LTD and the 414XLII through the great river and I was pretty happy with it...

Really? Because I hate the C414 for male hiphop vocals. I even preferr the Sm7b to the C414.

After choppin it up with Mr. Belmont, looks like the new plan is a 22 47 LE, and a Breant Averill.

The GR is not a Neve clone, but it is Neve "inspired". The nice thing about the GR is it can go from clean to colored, by using the two gain knobs(and the load button). It will never be as clean as a grace or as colored as a Neve, but covers the middle ground pretty damn good. Its a very versatile pre you wont be disappointed.

I've never used that mic so i can't comment on it.

I have the C414 b xls. From what I understand all 414's are known to scoop out the mids and exsentuate the highs, which I do not find apealing on hiphop vocals. I guess it depends on what type of hiphop your making too. I love the golden age (bcc, wu, coflo, dnd studio) junk. So I look for a darker sound with a stronger mid and a round bottom (i like round bottoms ) . If you were going for a radio hit I can see how gear like the 737 and maybe even a 414 would compliment a very clean polished sound. I appreciate the apeal of both sounds and styles of music, as long as it doesnt sound ameturish.

I think what I'm going to do is grab the BA1272 and 2247LE, and when I get some extra dough, cop the GR. I have never actually heard/read a bad review about either, even from people who have used both. I guess I will have to wait and see if the GR compliments the 47LE.

Either way I feel like I can't go wrong with the 47LE which is a knock off U47 and a BA1272 which is a Neve Clone.

I'm almost sick of discussing gear tho. I can't wait to get these pieces of ish and just make some damn music! I will make sure and post some joints the week I get the gear. Probly looking at 2nd or 3rd week of Oct.

I had the Great River ME-1NV and would think it would be best for classic rock. I couldn't imagine it for Rap/HipHop but It might just work fine. I would think the Purple Biz with a MC77 would be great for that, but Ive never heard either. I do plan to get the newer Purple BIZ MK though along with an LA-3A though.

Do something about your signature... You can't put photos of things you are trying to sell in it.
