Best piece of advice I can give...

Check out the next Elements of Mixing... Wanna know how those plug ins match up to the real thing... hear 130K compressor... if a summing bus makes a difference... crack gain staging... all that good ish... really find out what some of these people on the forum are really up to... cats from all over including the UK even a dude from the street where I live (and I took a 4 hour train ride).... Your questions get answered... the whole experience was amazing and sheds a whole new light on what your trying to accomplish.... F%ck A/Bing it was like A/B/C/D/E/F.... and the room... ... it was the best learning experience ever... started to read my notes on the way home, and realized I didn't really write anything down but quotes... long story short we all know a lot more that we think... hearing and seeing it done is what most of us are missing. They really bring the common sense outta mixing...

Crazy DOPE...

A REAL EYE OPENER from two regular dudes (but beast when it comes to engineering)...

3, 2, 1... thread deleted.

Jay, u talking about the Elements of Mixing Blog: January 2008

??? not sure.

but anyway..

learning hands on is the best way. Watching(& hearing) things get done, and understanding what AND WHY it was done goes unmatched. And you're right...a lot of us know more than we think and end up second guessing ourselves. Engineering is not hard when you learn to understand the simple things. Then from there all you need is good practice. Practice, practice, practice.
Then from there all you need is good practice. Practice, practice, practice.

Then from there all you need is good practice. Practice, practice, practice.

Also be aware that there are so many ways of doing things. Don't ever get complacent or allow others to trap you into that "its this way or no way" bull.. Stay open-minded and try new things from other sources. and again learn to understand WHY something was done as well as what was done. Over the years I've learned that in some cases the "WHY" was a key factor and in other cases the "WHY" was simply personal preference.

hope all is well on your end. I hope to keep things moving like they are down here in da DFW.

holla
