| Gear maniac | strange crackle from my digi002 past couple days my digi 002 has been acting funny. i get a crackle in the speakers. it would do it when i turned the monitor level all the way down. so i took the knob off and blew in there but it didn't fix it. should i go at it with a can of air? I've only had the digi for about a year in a smoke free studio. |

Have you tried disconnecting the 002 and seeing if the problem remains? It might be a static/grounding issue or poor connections to the speakers...

| Lives for gear | It could also be a clocking issue (though unlikely if the noise persists even with the volume turned down), or maybe even the infamous Digi 002R power harness issue. I'd give Digi customer service a call; they've always been quite helpful for me.

| had similar issue when my converter specs didn't match my project specs. a/d Converter was at 24 88hz and my project was at 24 44.1hz or visa versa. Also what bgrotto said. I think i was clocking from my converter so everything must be matched. |

| Gear maniac | i did open a session the other day that was 48 and it was set to that, but I changed the settings back to 44.1. I rebooted today and didn't notice it yet after a couple hours of recording. I have not had the power harness changed yet. |

| try muting the speakers and giving the volume control 10-20 spins, quickly, fully up and down. all consoles eventually get crackly pots - most of the time activating the pot clears it. If this is the problem, it should do so for you (at least temporarily) - maybe compressed air will help too. Are you sure it's the 002 and not the speakers? if the volume is all the way down, it's more likely to be post-002. |

| Gear maniac | at first it was only doing it in protools but now it does it when i have it alt src enabled too. it only lasts a second and is really random. will happen maybe twice every 10 minutes. but it hasn't happened for several hours now. i can't seem to tie it down to anything. i'm using the hr824's with mogami cables. all my cables are mogami. |

it might just be a bit of dirt in the pot. As far as I know, the Alt Source button has no A/D when routing straight to the monitor. Which would mean that rules out any clocking issues (which it doesn't sound like anyway). Which means an issue somehere in either the monitor section (hence suggesting the pot). You're going to have to do some basic fault finding on your own here. Without actually being in the room with you, all people can do is suggest things - it's down to you to actually try switching components out and try to isolate the problem - which can be tricky if it's intermittent. But until you've tried everything I've suggested above, I personally can't offer any more suggestions! | |
