Spectrasonics - Omnisphere

this is dropping pretty soon anyone think it's gonna be as huge as they claim or others claim.

I know it's not gear related thread but I just keep hearing so much hype over this thing that it could really put hardware in a pinch hold.

especially see the reactions from namm and Prince's keyboardist just freak'n jock'n it. But hasn't he always be a software slut? I used to use only software now I'm using mostly the motif es and love it but this might have me running back to software again.

they need to work the bugs out b4 they release this. trilogy has been unusable to me because of constant crashes over past 4 months or so. those kind of issues are what makes me jump back to hardware after taking 2 steps forward to software. time is money for me.

never had any kind of problem with trilogy (ol PC and ableton), I use it all the time, maybe it's your configuration?

That manufacturer makes god-awesome plugins. I think that it is going to be a hit when it comes out.

I use Trilogy as it has that awesome R. Kelly type of bass.
With Atomisphere, I get those SOLAR Face and LA Reid-Leon Sylvers III-Jam & Lewis sounds.

The problem with Trilogy is a bit more than just a wrapper. Spectrasonics leased the engine for Trilogy (and Atmosphere if I'm not mistaken) from another company and they didn't renew the lease. Because of that, they had to basically completely redo the software so of course that's going to take a while. I'm sure whatever new stuff they come out with existing users will get a decent discount on it.

This makes sense. I wondered why everyone else released intel upgrades and they didnt. They alienated a bunch of customers.

I'll be upgrading. Hopefully by the release date, but my pocketbook saying maybe a little later. Omnisphere, Kontakt 3, and Trilogy is all I'll need. Oh and Battery 3 for drums.

I was excited until i found out that you can't import your own samples.
Now I'll have to pass.

they didnt rule out sample import
its just not in version 1.0.
and with 40 gigs of hi res samples onboard theres hardly any pressure at least for me to import my own shit.
got enough samplers that i can do that with.
AFAIK Omnisphere is foremost a synthesizer and i am confident that it will not dissapoint in that regard

Well, I usually make my own synths and sampled instruments with Ableton Live and a shit load of plug ins. I love the synth options on Omnisphere. But I really don't like presets at all. i like creating instruments from scratch. There is just something really special about that to me. I'm no stranger to doing the same type of things they do in there videos to sample sounds and instruments.

If I could take some of my samples and import them, i would buy it in a heart beat. I know they didn't rule it out, but they didn't seem to excited about implementing it in future updates either.

I have not had a single issue with the wrapper much to my surprise. I am on a macpro quad 2.66 running OSX10.4.9, logic 8, and protools 7.4. Its never crashed once and I use it pretty much daily. Is it inconvenient to switch screens and all that, yes, but it works fine.

There will be a discounted upgrade fee for atmosphere users which makes me much less sore at them for taking 1.5 years to make a wrapper.

it sounds like you need something like a Hartman Neuron.

I got one and the hardware version goes up to 5.1, while the software version (with a hardware controller) does stereo. you can import your own samples and the sound this thing makes are priceless

Omnisphere is a product made by a collective with a depth you have never seen/heard before in the software..........and the hardware world.

the "wave-tables" are of highest quality and the fx section is nice too.
in the end, it gets sent out with a ton of sounds, but the perspective for the end-user is: mix sounds, morph, mangle, create.

even without the option to sample your own material (for now), you get a product that you'll be able to use for the next couple of years or even decades. you easily could.

I make my own "synth patches" with Ableton Live (Simpler, Racks..etc..), Pro Tools (Elastic Audio), Kontakt, Battery, and a shitload of plugs and processors. But as I read your post i realized that I probably will buy it. But what i will do more than anything is sample whatever I create inside Omnisphere and make new instruments that way.

I was going to say exactly what you came up with, omnisphere can be a great starting point for generating the raw material to throw into your sampling process, esp. if your'e using ableton like a big sampler.

Eric and the team over at Spectra are top notch guys. Him, Diego, and Adam (the crazy dancing white dude who is easily one of the sickest DJs / Turntablists I know, we went to USC together and granted dude looks like the whitest of the whiteboys, dude has been DITC and killin decks for a minute). You know how you always hear about funky softsynth programing, patches sounding "thin" how romplers seem "bigger" etc? I never seem to hear that with their products and that's cuz Eric programmed a boatload of stuff for the JV/XV series (and we all know how much that got used in the urban music world) and he's been groomed by the hardware sound design pedigree.

Yes as for Trilogy and Atmosphere, they both use the UVI engine which is licensed from USB (ultimate sound bank, not your mouse). with the completion of the STEAM engine, i have no doubts that trilogy and atmosphere replacements should make their way to the marketplace as they have become an industry standard for being a quality sound source for their respective sound types.

Sorry for the long ass post, i def need some sleep. Hope someone puts up a beat with some Omni-sauce slathered over it!

so has anybody copped yet?

I am curious about the selection of bass sounds and if it could replace trilogy. I hate using intel wrapper for it and would consider buying it if i could get rid of trilogy
