Mixing Instrumentals for Live performance

How should one mix an instrumental beat for a live hip hop performance? What are the most effective techniques? Should I leave a little extra room in the presence area if I am familiar with the performer's voice? Does making a hot mix, with a good deal of parallel compression and/or limiting translate into a fuller sound live, or will does that backfire?

It really should be no different than mixing a regular record and muting the lead vocal (tv track) or all vocals (instrumental, make sure you have an ending instead of a fade-out). A good mix will hold up for a live performance unless you have bad mono-compatibility.

i would also mute all non-essential tracks, tiny details will just get lost.
