| How to make samples sound so soft... ...cause for me it's soft. I'm listening to "Keep Hustlin'" track from the new Almighty LP "Original s.i.n.". Reverb is first. What more? |

| what do you mean by soft? You want the sound to quieter or do you want it to be more squashed sounding? To make it quieter: bring the volume of the track down.... To make more squashed: ummm..... Compress it... |

| No. I mean soft. Soft is squashed? I mean - gentle...(I think that's the word). |

| ADSR, reverb, maybe some tape/tube saturation, and also try eq your reverbs. I mean an eq after the reverb on the bus |

| if you want the samples to have less impact throw on a compressor with a fast attack time and a slower release. Obviously you gotta find the magic times as per sample. Start with the ratio low and use your ears. When it fits in with all the other sounds you have going on its good. You can also throw a shelf EQ on the high end to dull it up. good luck

| Some flavor of LowPass Filter is the usual treatment. |

| If you kill the transient with proper compression, you can remove a lot of the punch of a sample which can make it 'soft'er...

| Yes, I sample from vinyl. And thanks for other suggestions - I never thought about compression in this way. /I should have for sure/. Thank you! |
