Isn't it distorted?

Can you please guys help me?
I'm just connecting my stuff together...and I think something is wrong. Isn't that signal distorted? /Please listen to the vocals also/.

nothing wrong there imo, but why not compare it to the original recording you have?
vocals sound a bit washy or something but that might have been their intention.

i hear some inherited distortion but to me it sounds like its coming from the track itself. its a good type of distortion - not clipping or anything like that

Thanks Sirocco. The sample comes from Ultimate Breaks & Beats SBR 521...the record isn't scratched and it's in a great condition...that's why I worry if everything's ok with my setup.

yeah but ultimate breaks and beats's "masters" were records (vynil) so not the best possible sound to begin with.

I think I do not understand what you mean.
You say that vynil records aren't the best possible sound to begin with?
(I got UBB at the vinyls.)

Beat You Down, please tell me what you meant.

its been recorded from vinyl, there is therefore noise inherent in the signal, from the needle and electronics etc. This might be the distortion (i'm at work and can't listen to your sample) that you here.
cheers joe

Oh - I did not see that one before...strange.
I do not have the original recording.
Here's the track from youtube and the vocals sound better:
YouTube - Sound Experience "Devil With The Bust"

Maybe...but I'm still not sure.

...
OK - now I connected my turntable straight to my mixer. /so I did not use the Pro-ject phono stage and ASR/. It sounds like this:
zSHARE - this_2-mp3.mp3

DO ANY of you have this Ultimate Breaks & Beats compilation also? You would help me a lot.

they didn't use the original masters to press ubb, they used vynil records as their masters, that's why for instance if you sample impeach the president off ubb you get the noise, pops and crackles that were on the record they used as their master so technically if you use ubb you get double noise, pops and crackles not even counting other degeneration that might have happened.

Ah, I understand. But that's ok. UBB are bought mainly from curiosity. But as I heard that kind of "distortion" I had to ask this question cause I really do not like to feel that something was wrong with my equipment.

Nice info also - I didn't know that. Thanks.
