Teddy Riley's Studio Burns Down

Teddy Riley's abandoned studio in Virginia Beach burns | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com
I saw this today and was saddened to hear the news. Anyone hear how he's doing. I heard that he may be working on Beyonce's next project. Is that true.

Damn man. It's sad but I don't know who to be sad for. Seems as though it was set. Seems as though the studio was closed, old and unused. Teddy man. I hope he pulls through all this crap. He's too talented.

"The defunct studio was on the selling block at the time of the fire. The owner of the property, Dunkirk Properties LLC, owes more than $18,000 in back taxes, according to the city treasurer’s office. The company is linked to former Beach attorney Troy Titus, whose law license was revoked in 2005 after he bounced checks worth $3.3 million."

So is it Teddy's??? Doesn't look like it

I hate to see stuff like this. Teddy was a real force - new jack swing an all. He's poised for a comeback. I hope he gets a nice insurance check.

Man, I remember visiting that studio a while back when I was on tour. I wonder what he's up to. He always thought we (Imajin) were talented.

Hmmm...sounds like that check might be going to Dunkirk Properties...maybe to cover their back taxes...?

Hope things weren't as shady as they seem on the surface.

I think he produced 5 songs on that album, and co-produced 1. Unfortunately, that album could only be considered decent at best. Hopefully Snoop makes up for it on his next effort.

That wasnt Teddy's Studio anymore... he sold it.. and to be honest he's really not even trippin off th studio being burnt down.. I work with teddy on a daily basis and let me just say that the dude is CRAZY on the keys... his freestyle melodies are DOPE as hell.. and just being able to be in the room while he's producing is an honor i'm glad to have... not to mention mixing records hes producing..

Right now he's got a lot of things going on, as you all know he did about 7 tracks off the snoop album and he's working on a bunch of stuff right now that will be poppin in the next 6-12 months.. so be on the lookout for that... the man got some HEAT but yall already know that

Yeah, his album with snoop was ok, but i wonder how quik gets his albums with all that clarity, he talked about using a VTC console in an early scratch mag, but he never said what he does to get that clarity, i think he has the best sounding albums out right now, same sound as his trauma album, just big wide and clear.

funny- having received a call (and brochure) about that place being on the market recently, first thought was it had to be "insurance" related. what a shame. the pictures that came with the brochure looked like hell and the place looked pretty neglected. ah well.

Teddy Riley is one of the great mysteries of the music business. How can someone so talented and popular be bankrupt when there are so many less talented getting rich? Its not like he's devoid of fans.

Teddy is far from broke i promise you that... the man owns and drives a Maybach, and has enough production gear to make an audiophile cry... TRUST!

Teddy is a living legend, and is probably the most down to earth person Ive ever met. Not to mention very humble, he isnt flashy at all... just a real ass cat...

quit worryin about the bullshit financial troubles the media exaggerated on... and lookout for Teddy's work coming ou in the next 6 months or so

One Of My Saddest Day

Slutz,

Im writing this post to let you know the history of this facility. It was my stepping stone.Teddy found me in NYC when i was 21.I was barely a asst..He gave me nod that gave me my first break Michael Jackson, before that was the Dog Me Out Remix from GUY.This lead me to Virginia Beach in probably one of the best mix rooms i ever worked in.That room gave so so many hits for all of us from Rump Shaker to BlackStreet.I talked to Teddy last week at great length he moved on, an as for him being tapped out, well know this, his generosity never ceases.Teddy is my mentor, my friend an most of all MY BROTHER!
HE is a genius we just have not caught up with him yet.Like great geniuses the lab is everything,i put in alot of sweat an heartache in those 4 years. The room gave me what i need to hear now.Constancy!, I AM AN WILL ALWAY BE A NY MIXER!!!! A F$CK EM ATTITUDE! But we brought alot heart, soul, dedication from the north down to VA.I am proud to be apart of a legacy. When i left there were, a few people that contribute the tone beside my self one being Keston Wright,Franklin Grant who brought George (JR.)Meyers (which i believe was incredible ya'll ) these few people as well Serban who was a computer tech at the time gave us a great foundation.Yes i was the first to be mixing in St A ,when we just had the board an very lil outboard gear, but the original room was pure tone.Sorry to be long winded but i feel people don't really know they just assume. So farewell to The Future an thank you an Teddy for breaking my carrier.
One other thing it's not how many hit's your on it's the journey an longevity you have.Everyone needs to know that dreams do come true but loyalty last an spoken a long long time.
