mixing and mastering

Hello
I have a recording studio in south florida.
my equipment i use is
avalon 737
tl-103
mpc 2500
fantom
motif
pro tools le
m auido bx8 monitors
mac g5
plug ins
urs A10
fairchild

I want to mix down my beats and vocals.
but i feel like i never can get the real big loud sound i want from my beats
and from my vocals.
it just does not seem to be as loud as the beat and clear enough.

i have had engineers mix and master and give me the sound that i wanted out of my beats and vocals so i dont think at all it is the sound i am using.

do you think i should use different equipment or do i need some plug in's

from what I'm reading it seems you've put the money into some decent equipment ( besides those BX8a's) not you just need to put some time into learning how to use it... Expirement with different plugins and settings and in time you'll slowly start to please yourself with your progress... Room treatment plays a big role in your overall sound, so if your rooms aren't treated then thats a start also... Maybe you could pay a few of those mix/ mastering engineers and sit, watch, and listen... Get an idea on what they are doing to acheive the sound your after.. And also read a few books... There are hundreds of good ones out there such as... The mix engineers handbook, & The Science of Mastering Audio by Bob Katz... And that is just the beginning... Expirementing for the experience is worth more than any book or forum could give you... Good luck though mah dude and be patient...

Go find a video by Dave Gibson, you can learn a lot of basic stuff that makes your sound there

Nice list of gear. You've got a long road ahead of you, learning all of it. Takes time, but have fun with it while you do it.

Of all that stuff, I'd say the Fairchild would be the most difficult to master!

Decent equipment. You might do better by finding some friends in the area who are into recording or finding a recording course. The sound that you're looking for is probably a product of compression, and it sounds like you need some education on how best to use the gear that you have.

A formal school would be a good choice. Being an intern in a commercial studio might be a better choice. Hanging out with people who are into what you're into who are better than you are may be the best thing that you can do for yourself.
