I really like Sam's mixes as well as Brian's songwriting and production on the album. they make a great team. I got to mix "Got Me Going" (Day 26) which was produced & written by Brian Cox and recorded by Sam. very well recorded, very well organized. Sam is excellent.

Philly is a hater. lol.

Anyways Sam is the shit, i have worked with Sam a few times and I always keep my ear out for the work he does.

I know Ken Lewis can co-sign that one. I worked with Ken during the Day 26 and Danity Kane mix projects. Ken is incredible also. I have learned alot from the both of them.

Just a slight correction Ken... Mario Winans produced "Got Me Going" Brian Cox co-produced and wrote it.

Check out the joint Sam did on the Danity Kane album called 2 of You. Another great record Brian and Sam did.

damn you are absolutely correct Matt! "Another Rio Diddy production". I knew B Cox was up in the mix somehow.

And for all ya'll who don't know, watch out for Matty Rich. He and Steve Dickey from Daddy's House are two of the most talented hard working up and coming engineers in hip hop anywhere period.

Yeah "sucka for love" is definetely one of the best mixes on the danity kane album. I can see how you may not think its perfect philly, but why do you think its straight garbage?

I didnt imply that the MIX was crap.
You interpreted my post incorrectly.

I implied that according to what was played in the video,ie a kick drum, backing vocals, and a few other tracks, it doesnt take a massive SSL desk and some high end gear to achieve that kind of result.

Nothing more--nothing less.

I am sure that the brother is a decent engineer.

BTW..why am I labeled a "hater" when so many others on this board comment in a similar manner and are not considered "haters".
Some folks can dish it, but cant take it.

Yo Philly I gotcha im pretty sure he was just beginning the mix- the vocals sounded compeltely unprocessed at that point.

Im not one of the ones here complaining and calling you a hater- I respect that you put yourself out there and are completely brute and honest. Although some of your comments may come off as offensive, I like your attitude and believe you need that when criticizing your own work. And honestly its kinda funny this forum would get boring if we didn't have ppl like you on it.

But why are people calling you a hater? To you SAMIAM seems like a "decent" engineer, probably because you've been there done that, have seen and worked with many good engineers. But you got to realize to most young guys here on the come up, SAMIAM is someone they look up to as hes definetely up there with the best of the best in the game RIGHT NOW. So when you make a negative comment, clearly there going to try to bash you- its like if you hate on the highest standard someone holds, ofcourse they will be resistive as what else would they have to look up to? Now it also makes them look amatuer to not listen to what you have to say (taking it with a grain of salt of course), process it, reassess your own opinion, and move on.

I think we need you here, being someone who was been in the industry so long and has seen how fades have come and gone and how popular music has evolved. You know your gear and have made great recommendations. Im surprised the rnb producers here on the come up arent getting at you to listen to their music, asking for tips and tricks. Perhaps you should finally reveal the music you have worked on, Im curious what you have done and perhaps people would have more respect for your opinions.

In sum, all of us should embrace Philly, no homo. For all his negative and unconstructive commenting, we can learn alot from him.

Thanks bro..I appreciate that.

From experience, I notice that a lot of the "younger" engineers and producers, those with so called "swagger" are usually not amenable to constructive criticism in any way.

I see it ALL the time.
Some are NOT willing to learn because their way is the only way.

Most cant even mike a drum kit or amp properly and believe me,I try to teach them how,but they aint havin' it.

Ill be more that happy to share my knowledge with anyone who is willing to listen...with an open mind.

peace..

DAMN! I was waiting for someone to say this.!! I thought I was the only one who noticed this "swagger". But i see it as arrogance or cockiness. And you are 100% right. A lot of them couldn't last in a rock session. I am not sure how it was in the 70's or 80's but I wish engineers were more humble today. I only know a few myself but the rest think they are the shit.

Hi bro,

Its such a damn shame isnt it??
I dont get that arrogance thing.
Ive been involved with many a hit record over the years and I have NEVER EVER encountered any of that arrogant attitude.
And all the engineers REALLY knew their craft.

Im not "hatin" Im just being real.

Cmon Philly. U weren't implying that the mix was bad?!?!?!

But U were making judgements on the sounds of the kick vox and other tracks based upon audio u were hearing Compressed on YOUTUBE and recorded thru a SMALL CAMERA MICROPHONE?!?!?!?!?!?

That sounds a little strange. WHy even judge the SOUND of something when u have all those non pro factors mixed in??

Cmon man

Read my reply again please.

I implied that according to the "bragging about the gear" and what they've got over there, he should have at least put up an example of the full mix and not just a few tracks that sounded like crap.

If hes "the shit" then go on and show it.
Thats all.
