Thread Starter | Recommendation: Best Mic For Rap. Budget $500-1000. I'm looking to buy a new microphone for my rap artists. Most of them have a grimey/gangsta/wicked/dope dealer type of tone. Powered by an RNP preamp, which mic do you think I should look into buying? THANK YOU ALL!! |

| wow... LOL.... Thats the wildest description ever.... In my opinion there is no such mic.... Its all personal preference as to which mic works for you and your customers ears... A mic I would suggest is the peluso VTB but thats in the $1000-$1500 price range.... But again that is the mic I like personally... As suggested in many other post on GS, rent a few mics and see which mic pleases your ears... Good luck mah dude...

Try the cheapest mic you can find, cause one day when your expecting them to show up to the studio, they won't show and then you'll hear from them about 2 years later! lol

Anyway I will give you a suggestion. The Shure SM7 is going to be one of your best choice IMO for the preamp you are currently using. The RNP is incredibly transparent, so any mic that sounds too boring is not going to cut it. Other mics you can try are the Neumann TLM103, AKG C414, Rode K2 or Studio Projects C1 if the artist is not overly silibant on the mic. If anything bring gangsta down to your local music store and audition a couple of those mics and see what works best, or rent a few and audition them... | |
