Goldbaby's Tape 808, do you tweak that?

I found some really smooth decent 808 kicks and I'm currently mixing a song and the kicks sound like they're already processed and sit so nicely in the mix but again i feel no confidence leaving my drums unprocessed, it feels like almost not logical to leave them as they are while mixing, anyone feels the same sometimes?

I've got 3 different types of tape808 kicks in this one track, the long heavy one, a medium one and a short punchy one which has no low frequencies at all (*PUCK*) but they really make u bounce when they come .
By the way, the kicks ain't layered together or anything, I'm just swithing between them thorought the track.

your drum track...

Yea I know what you mean about the processing part lol, maybe I been spending too much time reading what inexperienced mixers on FP etc been saying lol.

But ill usually do something really "light" to them, just because i wouldnt want anyone to recognize off the bat where im sourcing my stuff from,b.t.w - your track sounds interesting,if you get some spare time would you let us have a sneek preview at all?

End of the day the old saying still applies - If it sounds right to you,and you have experience under your belt - go with it

1st post ever woooooooooooo

I totally know what you mean.
I have some nice samples I don't even need to tune & I feel almost guilty. Not guilty because they are jacked (from legit source), but like I need to do more....
But, as it is said: if it ain't broke don't fix it.

some of those are manual chops (like on the chorus). i just used the cubase scissors, repeated on the note, and pitch shifted / volume faded. ...and the other delay is probably dubstation.

much mo delayin here:

one of the toughest things about being a good mixer is to know when to leave well enough alone. I've seen Mike Dean say here that he never (or maybe it was rarely) EQ's his kicks. so if that monster mixer is leaving it alone, and they are bouncing right to you, then let em do their thing.

By the way, what are Tape808's and where can i ......legitimately..... find them, as i could use more good 808's -Ken
