you want to track vocals using the de-esser? I dunno but sounds like a bad idea to me.

The 376 doesn't sound good.

If you spend a bit more on a solid preamp/compressor strip, you won't need a de esser.

uhu... but do you have his experience. I mean if he do that it's probably for that rapper and he know exactly whut he's trying to acheive. If I was you I'd avoid using a de-esser when tracking, you can always process the vocals later. Honestly you should focus on buying one or two good di/pre (the best you can get with you budget). That's whut I think.

ok, i'm just getting once i get the mc808 that will complete my list of things i want. the channel strip/pre is to experiment and learn my own technigues. i not trying to buy any hi end equipment yet, until i no want i am doing.

i am also not hip to this uad card/plug in thing since i'm not to recording so i want to ask this

will a uad card, along with plug in be more powerful than the dbx376

well it's totally different, I dont have the uad but I've been reading a lot of great comments about it so yes an uad sound like a good idea.

and bgrotto is a real engineer (not me) so if he says the 376 doesn't sound good I trust him.

I'm not saying buy an expensive pre, I say buy the best pre you can, you can process later with plugins (even free plugins, some are known for their quality).

if he's looking at a 376 he's on a budget so its redundant to even post anything regarding higher end ch strips(perhaps something within $100-300)... not to mention 2 of those strips really arent worth it...but thats another story

Heres one idea:
Get a used Bellari 503. Replace all the opamps (OPA2604s and an LT1469CN8 or OPA275 in the compressor) and critical components in the audio path. Swap the tube for a NOS tele, rft, JAN 12au7 and you have a channel strip that sounds surprisingly good...especially for maybe 300 bux total.
