Thumbs up Free VST Plugins FX for Hip-Hop (the MUST haves)

It's cheap, doesn't always look good GUI wise, can be buggy (not according to my experience though), but it's tested & approved by monkeys :
PS : Some are MAC & PC, other PC Only.

Reverbs :

- Christian Knufinke SIR 1.011 (Impulse Response Processor) :
SIR: SIR1

Great, but where do I get free Impulse Responses ???

Here : Noisevault Studio and Convolution Forums - Home

(warning : 1024 samples latency - but beautiful sound ^^ - Buy the 2.0 for no latency, beware it's not compatible with the 1.0 presets)

- Kjaerhus Audio Classic Reverb (a little thin, but nice tail) :
Kjaerhus Audio - Professional Audio Plug-ins

- SilverSpike RoomMachine 844 :
Room Machine

(all the other I've tried sounded cold and thin, any ideas here ?)

Phaser & Flanger :

- Bram de Jong Supaphaser 3.0 (Insane, litterally in sa ne) :
Bram.Smartelectronix.Com

- Kjaerhus Audio Classic Flanger :
Kjaerhus Audio - Professional Audio Plug-ins

Compressor / Limiter :

- 4Front W1 Limiter (Waves L1 Clone) :
yohng.com' :: W1 Limiter

Add all the 4Front free VSTi to the list. The brain behind these goodies is a core developer for the (famous) VSL library. How could I forget that one aswell ?

- TBT Audio TLs Pocket Limiter :
Tin Brooke Tales Software projects

- Flux Bitter Sweet :
Flux:: sound and picture development

- MDSP Compressor :
Classic Tools: MdspCompressor

Preamp / Saturation :

- MusicRow Preamp Emulator :
Musicrow Preamp Emulator VST- Free preamp VST plugin

- AtomSplitter Distroyr :
Atom Splitter Audio - Distroyr VST

- Nick Crow TubeDriver :
Tubedriver - Homepage

Echo / Delay

- Interruptor.ch (former EchoChamber.ch) Bionic Delay :
THE INTERRUPTOR: VST devices download page

- Mykrasound Stereo Echo :
Mykrasound.com

- E-Phonics Retro Delay :
E-Phonic - VST Plugins

Gate / deEsser

- DigitalFishPhones SpitFish deEsser :
digitalfishphones.com - free audio effects plugins
(Thanx MM-Pro !)

- NovaKill KillerGATE (32 step sequenced gate with filters & more) :
Untitled Document

(didn't find any monkey approved free standard Gate / noisegate VST - high quality yet)

I'm sure you'll find other VST Fx or VSTi that might interrest you guys on the develloper's homepages aswell ! And don't forget to support them if you have the time, either by giving feedback (bugs, ideas, thanx), or Paypal !

Recently a cool man gave that link in another thread, I think it's a good adition to your list, it's a "analog color" + "stereo wideness" type of plugin:

Bootsy Rescue
I like it!

Really the whole free line of Kjaerhus plug-ins should be on that list. I would really like to know the proper way to pronounce 'Kjaerhus'. I used them ALOT before I got the Waves ren bundle.

Co-sign, even if generally avoid free compressor, this one does a good job as a brickwall aswell.

I've tried the W1 before and, to me, it sounded absolutely nothing like the L1 (I had both at the time). Not saying either one is better...just saying it didn't sound like much of a clone to me.

Waves RComp
Waves REQ
Either Sony Oxford Verb or Waves RVerb

If you came and stole all my other plugs - why would you do that, you bastard!!?? - I could still make good mixes with just those...

I didn't test this W1 Limiter, but I trust the "manufacturer" as I've tested his free VSTi. He didn't use the same algorythm / no reverse engineering for "cloning" the Waves L1.

Still, for a free plugin, it's more than expected ! (yes this thread is about free plugins, not commercial / shareware ones).

More like Kjae-er-whoos if you want the correct, nordic pronounciation. I don't mind americans doing workarounds with this or Brüel & Kjaers names though.

Eh...I missed the free part.

In that case, the W1 was a good freebie

There's another one that I think is called Classic Compressor (NOT the URS version). It's sort of a mastering compressor and I can't remember the name of the maker to save my life. I wish I could so I could find it again...
