good budget mics or most UNDER rated mics

im sure a thread of similar ilk has allready been made but whatever.

i was a t a friends studio and we were listening to a play back of some female /male R&B vocals for fun.
anyway. he recorded them with an MXL V67 (she liked the color)
and it sounded great!

i have read mxl's get decent reviews for the price. but i was turned off by the 990.

wondering about any other budget mics peeps use.

also, i used the senheiser Eseries mics , they came out around 04 or so.
very good mics as well. versitle, i could use them for horns, vocal or guitar and get good results every time. i liked the 900(?) better than the sm58.

I would certainly take a look at Oktava mics.
Oktava USA - North American Distributer of Genuine Russian Made Microphones

Also look at Oktava mods. MIchael Joly the owner, is a great guy and does amazing things with Oktavas.

Oktava are good (319) for nasally voices (like mine).

Considering I bought one for 199, when that was dirt cheap at the time. I guess it all depends on what budget means to you!

Check out Studio Projects great mics great price... I think there whole deal is they are modeled after the classic Neumann mics, I havent done any A Bing with them but I have used SP mics and have been more than satisfied with the results!

At $1700 the ak47 is not "cheap" but its sound is really right up there with mics that cost much more. I have a decent chain also, but still its overly satisfying for the price I paid. Incredibly versatile and hasn't sound bad on any of the sources I have used it on.

Joe Meek JM47a is a very nice mic for female vocals. I was very impressed how it sounded on my girlfriend's voice. Extremely clear and present, but the sibilance was low and not in need of a de-esser. I'm using it with a Focusrite Trakmaster. I don't know how it sounds for other applications. I've yet to experiment.

Joemeek

I got one from novamusik.com for $99

Just noticed you've listed a location in Yellow Springs. If you want to hear my JM47a just let me know. I'm in the neighborhood.

I have an Oktava 319 at home, I work in an studio with all kinds of nice mics sometimes I bring my Oktava in to work and I can say that it stands up nice . it's just a little masked compared to the hi end stuff, The only thing I notice that its not as durable as the more expensive mics, I have to fix on it every once in a while to keep it working. I also did a session with an Rode mic (C2000) that mic sounded really good on female vocals. my favorite mic is the Audio Tech 4050 its not so much low budget but its a good mic for the money

i think a 4050 is a budget mic, a damn good one too...i understand some other mics listed are under $250... but the 4050 is a mic that can be used all over. from vocals to instruments to drums and sound really good doing it...

under its budget i really haven't used a mic that i really cared for other than the studio projects mics and on 1 or 2 artist the v69 me.. but like i said one or 2 artist and it was the only mic around.. i made it work....

if on a tight budget dont forget to check out zzounds or ams... they have 3 and 4month payment plans. if money is tight RIGHT NOW it helps being able to pay 1/3 or 1/4 the price every 30 days

Agreed

I think the Audio Technica 4040's or 4050's are good all around mics for the price. I use a 4040 for my vox and its very configurable.

Through a good pre and engineering you can get good vox out of a beta 58.

I like SP also, Good cheap chinese stuff, but man does it sound good for the price.

Another vote for the AT 4050.
Its a pretty flat mic with a bit of bominess which you can filter out.
You can also add a bit of top end and it works well.
I use if for Rap and female vocals and use the Blue Blueberry on male rock and some R&B vocalist.
I've heard the Blue Dragonfly is good for rap and I think there blowing them out at guitar center.

Is the Se Gemini still a budget mic? I recorded rapvocals with it, and it sounded great. And its a multipurposemic too.
