Slutty Preamp/Di to track my Korg Triton, Or slutty Compressor?

Im stumped on which preamp to consider for tracking my Korg Triton because it has a low output signal. Do I need a 2 channel preamp/DI or would a 2 channel compressor be the ticket? I want to keep any hiss/noise to a minimal, BUT DONT WANT TO GO DIRECTLY INTO MY INTERFACE. Anyone with experience tracking keyboards and especially Tritons lend me a hand because I aint trying to blow money on stuff I dont need. P.S. I want a HUGE WARM TYPE OF SOUND. Thanks. I need sleep!!!!

I am looking into getting a monster like the LaChapell 992 eg. I feel a tube pre/di is my ticket but the Avalon 747 compressor also gets my attention. Im a mess.

I read somewhere the REDDI from A Design Audio is the DI to look for if you want warmth... I've read, not heard ^^. It's mono & expensive though.

If anyone has other ideas for a stereo preamp for synths, chime in. A few people asked me this question I can't quite accurately answer !

Tnx.

I have a Korg Triton Extreme 88 which I have recorded straight into my Pro Tools 96 i/o no problems at all.. The outputs are at line level.

However I prefer to track it through my SSL X-Logic Mic Amp (which I don't think is made anymore, but it is just 4 SSL pre's in a 1u rack). I think it does give it a nicer flavour than going straight into the 96 i/o. I have tried Neve preamps as well which are great but the way I've wired up my studio makes it easier for me to just run my synths through my SSL preamps.

I also have an Avalon U5 which I have used before in the past, but I need 2 at least for stereo. I'm sure there are heaps of people that use 2 x Avalon U5's for their synths.

Have you heard of a Thermonic Culture Vulture? It would be another great little processor for warming up sources. If I had one I'd be running my VSTi's through it as well.

you're on the right track though ... A 747 would be quite nice too

I'm not familiar with the Triton, but when I started using the s/pdif out from my Trinity things started to happen. Huge improvement. If there is a s/pdif expansion to the Triton that's the way to go.

Here's another way to go. I connected the Trinity to my Benchmark DAC-1 and tracked through an AMEK CIB. Wow!

Later - Pär
