Regarding the "Logic 8" being "free" argument, please remember in September 2007 AIR released a cracked version of M-Powered PT 7.3/4 which according to friends is quite stable.

I do believe an M-Audio card/interface is still needed (not sure) but that's as cheap as $50 on ebay.

I'm a PT user, but I have used Logic on some projects and loved it. I've used Emagic 4.8 and 7, no Logic 8 yet. The older Emagic Logic is a wonderful program and was very stable IMHO.

I am running a pretty decent PC, but I will make the switch to Apple so I can have the capability to run both programs. I can't believe I'm saying that because Apple's marketing sickens my stomach.

Smile at the end of the day...

i see it as this.....
I have a mac..Have used pro tools LE since the digi 001...
after being super fed up with crap digi converters, interfaces way way way 2 exspensive plug ins, not enough tracks and no delay comp..i figured id try logic...

I have been using logic for a few months now i think its a sweet program....
it does just about everything pro tools does, with the addition of a crap load of great sounding STOCK plug ins, and soft synths that really do kick major butt that are FREE with th e program....

i think if you dont have the money for PRO TOOLS HD then a good converter and logic is your best bet...
IF you have 5-10 K to waste BUY HD and a new mac g5 quad core another 4 grand and converters at least another 4 grand and join the ranks of the lucky...

I see a lot of avid on Pc's.
in fact i heard apple is reaching out to avid and teaming up on a project in a attempt to keep avid happy enough to continue developing for mac.
i agree the consumer base is too large to just dump a platform. but its not unheard of.
logic USE to be cross platform. when apple bought them they dumped PC completely.
what remains to be seen is if apple is even interested in developing and selling dedicated hardware. Or do they believe the powermacs will be powerful enough in the near future to dump dedicated hardware.
a bottom line protool system 5 years ago was a minimum of a grand. barebones LE.
apple has forced avid to create a prosumer solution for audio and video.
but avid still rules on the highend.
but in my mind its only becuase apple doesnt want to play that game.
if they did.... peace avid.
