| best vsti's for r&b and hip hop in your opinion, what is the best vsti(s) for producing r&b and hip hop that can match sounds (good quality) from a keyboard. |

| a good all around one is steinberg hypersonic 2. It's a decent software substitute for a triton/motif/fantom.

| Gear maniac | i really love hypersonic 2! the orchestral stuff is great and doesn´t need much more processing. in my opinion those natural sounds are good in general in hypersonic! |

| if u let us know specifically what type of sound ur looking for we can be of more help. If you want software that sounds like a fantom or motif... plugsound pro for the instruments gladiator for the synths or nexus with expansion packs Do these sound "better than keyboards"- if u are tracking a keyboard with low end pres and converters software synths are going to sound much better (bigger and have more presence), if tracks properly- its all opinion. Most analog synths, as well as some digital hardware ones (particularly the virus t.i. which sounds better than most analog because of its great anolog converters), sound much better than motifs, fantoms, as well as the software mentioned above. In reality, u can make beats with just about anything on the planet, so its up to u to choose your weapon. I would choose the plugsound gladiator combo- they sound really clean and cheesy which is probably what ur going for. Nexus is pretty bad low quality samples covered with fx. |

| are vsti's 24-bit? i'm confused about this cause i always wondered if it makes a different to change the project settings to 24 bit when working with vsti's. If you change the project to 24bit, does it make the vsti sound better. There are actually 2 types of vsti's that i'm talking about (sampled based, and synths like pro-53) so my question applies to both type of vsti's |

| wow thaks for that. Yea i bought nexus a while back and sold it cause i hated their sounds. I was just loaded with gallons of reverb to cover up the wack low quality sounds. I'm not really looking for a specific sound. I'm just looking for vsti's that can give me similar sounds to what u hear on the radio. |

| this question and way of thinking is just going to lead you into a cookie cutter, boring ass sound if you follow the motif/triton/fantom route. explore, download demos, find your own sound. you're already boxing yourself in... go read the different reviews here: KVR: Virtual Instruments, Virtual Effects, VST Plugins, Audio Units (AU), DirectX (DX), Universal Binary Compatibility - Audio Plugin News, Reviews and Community there are tons of great synths out now that have excellent sound quality. shit, maybe you'll stumble on something and people will be asking "damn how do you get his sound?"... |

| I mix software with a bit of hardware. Main workstation is my Yamaha Motif XS. Stock it with some ram and get the analog synths samples/programs from easysound.de. Really makes the Motif shine. I just got the new Access Virus Snow, which is basically a half TI. Sounds great and will get a lot of use I am sure. The best thing for me is that both instruments integrate so well with Cubase 4 which is my sequencer of choice. Re software plugs, my main ones are Kontakt 3, Spectrasonics RMX with Nine volt audio packs, and Nexus with most expansions installed. A lot of the Nexus presets sounds great with Urban tracks once you turn down the reverb and lowcut the shit. For drum programming I use GURU. I LOVE that Plug. It has MPC swing presets, a brilliant interface for step programming, a cool and easy layer function and best of all, lighting fast drum sound audition while playing your pattern. |

...but there's no reason to work at 16b anymore. Any further processing you do on your instruments will work better at 24b, as will ITB mixing, any vocal or instrument tracking, etc. | |

| i thanks for all of your responses. I don't really ever track any instruments because i really just for INB for now and dont wanna waste my time trying to track when i dont have the right equipment for it (top of the line preamps) so i insert a vsti and then render it so that's why i was wondering about the 24bit thing cause i didnt know if the sounds that are sample are 16-bit to begin with. I know almost all my Drumkit samples are 16-bit so does it make sense to work with 24bit even when everything like samples, vsti (i'm guessing) are in 16bit? |
