Give a listen.....to give me adive

Please listen to a dry take of what Im recording, Its crappy I know I cant stand it! Its just a quick take to give you an example. just a few words. How can I get this to sound closer to the original song that I did about a year ago? (long story short not in contact with my sources anymore).

all attempts to reverb, equalize and compress have just given me a worse sound than the dry take.

Im using logic Pro 8, with an apogee duet, and an AT 4047, just about to step up to a true p solo or ua solo or grace 101, but not sure if thats what I need to get the sound I want? Im stuck with this mic for now.

Please be kind!
i'll post my songs on mediafire
vox.aif the dry snip.

02 From the State Pen to the Mental Institution.mp3 a song that i have finished and is the style i want to reproduce!

hi kincept

i had a listen to these tracks and i'm not sure what your issue is with the sound but i'm definitely hearing what sounds like quite a bit of distortion that i don't think would be easy to get rid of. the highs definitely aren't very smooth at all.
the top end sounds brittle, perhaps it's moisture on the diaphragm or the mic was dropped or it's the mic technique? i've never used that mic before but i don't imagine that the DUET preamps would do that and logic shouldn't be a factor in this either.

preamps can do this type of thing but often times it's the position ing of the mic.

do you use a pop shield and how far away from the mic are you?

i think if i was you i would look into a different microphone before trying a different preamp. i have the LA610 and it adds it's own fair bit of grit but this can be quite pleasing depending on the mic you're partnering it with

i've actually decided to stop using pop shields cause i can actually hear them in the signal which really began to bother me. this initially posed a problem trying to not capture the plosives and sssss but i worked out a technique that actually worked quite well

try a different mic technique, polar pattern and varying distances from the mic next time you record and see what happens.

i hate it when excuses are the forefront of what im about to listen to.. ex: its a rough take, or its an idea, etc.. bring something to the table that you are pleased with then ask for criticizm. i dont want to listen to half as* sh*t.. ive done enuff of that in my days and i still do, so i dont want to subject myself to more of it... im not an a-hole but ive been seein a lot more of this around here and theres a proper place to put it: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/work-...tist-showcase/
dont wanna sound like an ass but im a lil pissy right now

You got a point though. Some guys need to learn to have more confidence in their work. Even if the work is not up to par, if you really want adive (advice lol) on what you did, just put it up and dont make excuses for it at all. Whether or not you make excuses, if you are an amatuer at making music, other more experienced cats will be able to see that. There is no shame in being amatuer, everyone out there doing it big right now had to stink up the place before they turned out potpourri. Just keep doing your thing Kincept.

it seems you don't understand what his post was about at all!!! probably not your fault really because this is a follow on from another thread relating to mic & preamp issues

he doesn't like the quality of the vocal recording and if anybody could advise tips on what he could do to make it sound closer to the actual track

btw kincept, my explanation was about the vocal on it's own

Thanks macleodgrant! you hit the nail on the head!

I still cant figure out how to tell if my unit, or mic is defective? as you mentioned?

. I made a tolerable sound by adding compressor on the rap setting, adding in reverb, deesser and such but its still not exactly what I want.
