| Gear maniac | @BYD He probably is filled with envy, channels it in a negative, semi-intellectual manner towards people who actually do something with their ideas.

Or are you talking about sampling hip hop only post 90's? If that's the case then I would ask, why would anyone sample a hip hop song for another hip hop song? ![]() I'm confused here. ![]()

it's just a personal opinion to start with... and...i'm talking about stuff that could be recreated in a bedroom studio so yeah mostly hip hop and r+b. don't ask me why anybody would cause i wouldn't sample any other hip hop track. hunt down the original i would say and sample THAT.

| There's no way to run out of samples. Hell, just checking the rare groove sites for obscure regional acts ("Florida Funk" etc.) can give you some less common sounds to use, much less going international and snagging some Polish funk (it exists), German soul (ditto), et cetera. There has always been a great deal more music produced than the common listening public was ever aware of. It's just not possible to have heard every record out there, even if you limit yourself to a given era. And, not to bash sampling, which has its musical place, but there's always the option of learning from what you wanted to sample and creating your own sounds from that inspiration. Musically, a lot of what gets sampled isn't that hard to suss out: pentatonic scales, some syncopation, a few 7th or 9th chords (if that), on down the line. This is especially true when you're talking about samples that are a few seconds long (as opposed to Puffy's whole-song-using ass). When you get to the level of seriously chopping up and re-arranging your samples, you really aren't that far from the point of just making your own stuff from scratch. You have to understand the music really well to chop it up effectively, and once you understand the music, know why it works and how, you can start to play it. |

Hummmmmmm. I can rock the Clarinet, sax & it's been alleged that am semi skilled at the drums & a spot of piano... BTW i don't sample that often these days, not because i think it unmusical on the contrary i feel the sampler is one the greatest instruments ever made, it's manly due to sample clearance. Anyway whats with the beef against sampling, are you bitter no ones sampled you? P.S. to any out there who thinks sampling is dead remember this, at least once a year as there is always a platinum recorded or 2 to prove you wrong.

| I think this is endless, just think all the foreign films and foreign artists.. The same pieces get sampled over and over because sites like the-breaks and alike and the me-too guys that check them. Those sites are fine for what they are meant but people should dig into some real crates not into those sampled-songs lists |

| I'm still trying to figure out why people spend so much time trying to find a "good" Amen Brother sample...that ain't the hardest beat in the world to duplicate, folks. Hell, half of the funk drummers recording in that time period were playing some variation of that beat on the regular, but folks act like it's some singular rhythm never seen before or since. |

| I think the way how technology is comming out , its better for sampling / it does have its pros of cons ...... You have hardware/Software plugins etc ... to flip the sample change its tune ..... chop ..... do what ever you want ..... JUST ADD YOUR FLAVOR AND TOPPING >>>>> THEN COOK IT WAAALAHH ... YOUR HIT LOL |

anyway, since you have already learned how to play your instruments, maybe now you can learn how to spell correctly.

| on a related note, Im going to stop writing lyrics because there's no words left. I only use words from the seventies and earlier, but I might have to start using newer ones. |

| I seriously doubt that. If that were the case, I'm sure that news article would've mentioned it. Even if you *did* run out of original words, you could just start using another language.

I believe I'm getting the humour here...i've not often been accused of having a great sense of humour. Anyway, what's the deal with all the restrictions on sampling. Ex: I only sample from sixties and seventies, etc. What the **** ever....I'll sample anything and everything. I sample new RAp and R&B if there is a sound I want. I'll sample monks if I feel like. There are too many genres not really explored yet in sampling to even fix my mouth to say "are there any more samples left?" I mean seriously, once the restrictions are removed, you could live to be 400 years old and not run out of stuff to sample...I mean really. Just get creative and sample whatever sounds and/or feels right and you'll never get bored...I only have maybe 300 or so records...I could sample and resample those same records for another five years and not run out of ideas...
