2 Pac "Ghetto Star"

This song has been done befor, on DJ remixes and what not, diff. here is I had the files, Im a big 2 PAc fan so having his Pro Tools session at my desk is really big for me!!!!! Than to do the track, I lost my mind for a sec! Anyway, the vocals were the biggest i had heard in Pro Tools personally, not alot of tracks, but huge, warm, clear vox bang up the middle. Anyone hear record this song, good job! You can hear 2 Pac say my friends name in the intro, so you know this is how the song was intended. You guys and gals let me know what you think of the track as well please.

YouTube - 2PAC Ghetto Star the real version! Listen to the intro!

Heres a pic of the PT files.

You can tell this version is original becuase no one has ever heard it with the whole intro.
Heres some pics of the session file.

@ Charlie-O

I remember hearing that the original version of Ghetto Star is like 6 minutes long with a super long outro of 2Pac just talking. I know you probably didn't include this in your version but was this available to you when you were working with the acapella?

No in the sesision I recieved: Pac had 2 verses, and the intro. i was the second producer to work on the session though, so I know things were cut. Like the second verse; it was used for a feat. on another song.

I heard the other song with Pac as well. The Producer did a great job on that one.

On a gearslutz note, the Guitar and Bass I had played by Dwayne' Wiggins, my certified big homie. The Vocals I recorded with a TLM 103 into a UA 6176, into a Apogee Trak 2 into Pro Tools. The guitar is cut using Guitar Rig 2.

The was sequenced in Pro Tools using a Mpc 4000, and Motif.

cHARLIE-o...All the fans ask is for the original to to be released in its entirety, full intro full outro, all original verses, original production in pure cdq, thats all nothing more. I know you're just given a pella and you have to compose a beat around it, and you get paid and **** it, but would you not like to hear what the original sounded like? why destroy a masterpiece ? maybe one day you guys will realize this, until then we have to endure these mediocre remixes that do not suit pacs flow, style, theme, genre. no disrespect at all by this but somebody has to make the change and everyone thought nutt-so would be the first to do so on his first album in how long?. obviously NOT!!!

One challenge regarding Tupac original versions vs. remixes:

Nearly all of his stuff was sample-based, and you'd be surprised at the difficulty in getting that stuff cleared, even for an artist of his stature! Some copyright holders had "no-clearance" policies, others wanted outrageous advances because it was Tupac, others outright declined because it was Tupac!

Many "purists" also scoffed at singles like "Do For Love" and "Changes", but those records provided exposure and income that his family appreciates to this day.

Thats sounds like a very educated response. Honestly I wish i could hear the original myself. But it was never released in its entirety, just another remix feat. Bad Ass, who removed Nutso who was originally on the song. It is what it is.

Peace,
Charlie-O

I would consider myself a purist and all of the fans are well aware of the sampling issues over the years, but the funny thing is Pac's albums while he was alive were full of samples and the funding and personnel were there to secure the rights to release these. I feel they'd rather pay cheap labor (producers sometimes working for free) then have to pay for pricey samples, and ultimately the music is suffering and his legacy is tainted as a result. they haven't released one untouched original track since 1997, Besides the track ''Soon as I Get Home'' from the recent ''Pacs Life '' LP because they only had a fully mixed down version so were unable to destroy it. what does that tell you? everybody said no over the years besides that one track? the fans wouldn't mind if every album released featured a remix and the original/tweaked version to accompany it giving you the best of both worlds on a double/triple cd, ultimately the samples paying for themselves as a result of incredible sales. but to blatantly strip and water down and replace his closest homies with the weak artists of today is unacceptable and it only seems to be getting worse as the years go by. if pac wanted his music remixed he would have rapped to a tambourine.

The so called original version produced and submitted by Go-Twice featured on the Better Dayz LP, but was tweaked, intro and outro cut short, and has been confirmed to be very different then the original
Charlie-O no disrespect keep doing your thing man.

A lot of the early stuff was simply released without being cleared, and it came back to bite ALL involved, making the label especially gun-shy about anything involving samples. I doubt that anyone ever got paid their due from the sales of those first few albums since there were so many cease and desist orders... Also, remember that Pac was made out by the media to be public enemy #1 in those days... this coming on the heels of the whole Time/Warner- Interscope chaos. It was a complicated and confusing time!
Now of course, the CR owners want a fortune since he's a legend, and while there are some ardent fans out there, record company economics still are what they are.
I wish the world could hear more of the original versions, and I think there is still some stuff in the vault that no one's heard in any form....

I hope there is still is, and am willing to bet there is still more material in the vault. BTW thank you to all for the feedback. Honestly, I think Pac was the greatest rapper to date, just my opinion. It was a great honor to even do a remix, any mix, involving his vocals, and i had a great time. I let it out on that track, I left it all on the pads.

As for copyright issues, Im sure the prices can get in the stratosphere somewhere. Its too bad, because he had a great "gift" for picking really good music to write to. Reall good producers on all his later stuff when he was alive. Maybe some A&R work in there too, who knows.
