Thread Starter | Ken Lewis is now Damaged
Hey fellow Slutz, So, recently i mixed the new single from Danity Kane titled "Damaged". The music video just got released and the single is building well at radio, however, I had to share with my fellow Slutz the reason why i now know this song will be a mega-hit. Are any of you familiar with the crying "Leave Britney Alone" guy Chris Crocker? Well, he's now done a YouTube dance routine to Danity Kane "Damaged". I know I have arrived as a mixer when a song i mixed gets on the Chris Crocker RADAR. its already got almost a million views. Unbelievable. After watching it, if you dare, i assure you, you will be Damaged too. My retina are burning. Here's the link...Enjoy! YouTube - Chris Crocker is Damaged! -Ken Lewis |

waddup Ken... congrats! Im a fan bruh... you make good music. cool@me using one of your mixes as a reference though. do you happen to know what the signal chain was for this track? cuz I've been trying to find a signal chain for female vocalists. I always have a problem with vocals sounding too "real" if you know what i mean... i know it sounds crazy but i think it has something to do with the sound of the microphone i use. I use a Rode K2, going into a DBX 586 (dont kill me, i know it sucks, but its all i got right now).. I know that they recorded in a bigtime studio, but i am just looking for advice to guide me along the way toward getting a sound like the sound that was acheived in that song, and on the album in general. |

Why did you post that link? What have we ever done to you besides big up your work? That was horrible! (The dance, not your mix.) Good work Ken, but please don't post a Chris-whatever-his-name-is link again! |

Yep. This one sits somewhere inbetween 2 girls 1 cup and the BME Pain Olympics. Horrifying nonetheless. Regardless... Ken's right... this is a certified hit. Props Ken! ![]() Die Chris!

I dont know what the recording chain was (i wasnt there), but my mix chains for vox on the song depended on what your talking about. On the LV's, you should read the thread that someone started asking me about 200+ track mixes. I broke down in detail how i sometimes split off a single lead vocal onto several tracks ITB (same output on the console) and treat them differently ITB. once they are on the console, my typical danity kane LV chains were one of the following (i did alot of mixes with alot of vox, dont know what got used where) NEVE VR Channel insert.....then..... Some kinda compressor. this is what i used for Lead vox somewhere on almost every mix, Distressor or Summit DCL 200 or ADL Some kinda EQ, this is what i used for Lead vox somewhere on almost every mix, API 4 band (are those the 550's?) or GML 8200 or GML 2032 or Neumann PEV or Tube Tech CL1B and sometimes also/or Neve Channel EQ De-esser if/when i used them were always DBX 902's so it was any combination of the above, usually compressor/EQ/de-esser, but sometimes the de-esser ended up in different parts of the chain and of course this is all after some random string of plugins on each channel -Ken

i hate admitting this but after seeing what those fools do to their cocks ugh... im still not sure i can get it up. that is DISGUSTING. i couldnt even watch the whole video. my ex used to be best friends with masuimi max the fetish model who was married to some allen guy who would hang from helicopters with hooks in his back. she made me watch that shit once and i almost threw up. i dont know if it was the olympic video but it was BME something .... ugggghhhh... im sick again.

I must be the only one who thinks that his dancing is better than the song? Also, it's clearly a pisstake on "Making The Band" (I like how he went to a faux-rehearsal-studio) and while I think that Chris Crocker is a complete nut (who knows? he may be a marketing genius who will have his own HBO show soon?), I think this video totally reflects/symbolizes MTB and other such shows ... Sorry, Ken - the track sounds punchy on YouTube, but I really don't like the songwriting at all. Then again the only r&b-pop tunes I liked in the past years were "Be Without You" by Mary J. Blige, Kelly Rowland's "Stole" and Ne-Yo's "So Sick" ... |

i don't get it. was chris cocker given a copy of the song before puff took it to mastering? or was the song leaked pre-mastering? I could see it in the top ten no problem. At least there are some decent singing performances and melodies as opposed to alot of simplistic crap that's been making the charts of late. good job ken! you got your vocal sounds on lock! i take it you got a pretty tight relationship with puff.
