Whats with the dark lighting and the red horror theme. Sorry, but these two videos show nothing useful. Far from demos.

What about demonstrating the newer features of this 5000 and actually using them to show 'us' in these videos rather than the 'been there and done that beat patterns'?

The MPC 5000s advertised sale price is $2500 and the MPC 2500 is/was $2000. When the MPC 60, 2000 (with all options installed), and 3000 were released..they cost more than the current price of the 5000.

If you want keygroup programming like the MPC 4000..simply get an MPC 4000 or even an MV-8800. But since the MPC 5000 is essentially a master MIDI workstation, simply pair it with your favorite hardware or software sampler (GigaSampler, Mach Five, Emulator X, Kontakt, etc) for keygroup programming without limitations....

Actually, I thought the MPC 2500 was overpriced when it dropped for what it does. funny you mention the MV8800, that thing costs a few hundred less than the MPC5000, I just think its silly for Akai to take away a feature like that from its flagship model and charge more than the competition. its all subjective i know as the workflow and the new synthesizer it has added may be worth that extra $$$ and I can dig that because I dont like the workflow on the MV8800...

or, just buy a mpc 4000 for 1600 and have keygroup programming without limitations.

which is pretty much how akai have maintained sales of this line, lot of love for the 'mpc way', even when the competition serves up better specs on paper

Using an MPC 4000 for keygroup programming does have limitiations...starting with the available amount of memory and it still doesn't stream samples straight from hard drive. On the other hand, many of the $300-$500 software samplers can do just that and are more feature packed than the MPC 4000.

So while the MPC 4000 (or the MV 8800) is a good option for keygroup programming, there are other alternatives..that are perhaps better, more powerful, and easier to use.

The price issue is the most slept on aspect. Computer technology was expensive when the 60 and 3000 dropped. You couldn't just go out and buy a dirt cheap powerful PC or Mac. Now that computer technology has caught up and far exceeded the technology found on most of these workstations..I don't find the price of Akai's new products justifiable at all. $2,500??? Couldn't I just get a Macbook or Mac mini with an Mbox2 pro and external drive for equal or less cash?? And I can literally do 100 more things with a laptop or PC than any single piece of music gear. You can run a business, watch movies and do full music production on computers now...just seen a 2500 for $1,000 on craigslist...$400 2000 classics and $500-$700 XL's?? That sends me a specific message.
