jeffs telling the truth. No lies

The independent game is the best way to go, when your not in the studio promotion off your own back, the fewer debt's the better. If you have access to mom & pops shops, leg work on sale or return is one way to get over.

I bet the dollar per ten dollars in Jeff's example is generous, the reality is probably less, esp. for puppets like Britney Spears.

Most definetally less if you are just starting out. Perhaps a heavywieght will have much more say in their share as their succesfull career progresses. What a screwed up system not in the artists favor.

What a sad reality.. But then again, there are so many people in the business who shouldn't be (I know of a few in the rap industry) and I don't blame the record label for taking their money.. cuz they suck. But if you are truly talented and a dedicated individual with a passion for your music, then by all means you should have enough bread to share with others.

The two videos of Don Passman and Mr. Blackwell are courtesy of Artist House Music which is owned and operated by John Snyder, a professor and dean of the Music Industry studies program at Loyola University.
