i have a big oddly shaped room

i hear a very perceptible difference with the reflexion filter and non-gear heads think it looks cool.

the thing i keep hearing is that they are over priced. If the mic thing is just as good and i've read from one review that it was better then You can save 80 bucks. I heard the pvb does a better job because it's bigger. I mean the se reflexion filter does look the nicest but it really comes down to the best sonics.

You could build something that works just as well for around $60.

sE claims there's a little more to it then just foam. I know you can build it but i was hoping for an answer to my original question. Or a bunch of peoples opinions and i can make my decision from those. Whether building one or buying one.

Reflexicon Filter... It just works. Plain and simple. It cancels the room ambiance enough to noise gate out the rest. Hardly any room reverb. It just makes the vocals dry.

I built 3 DIY versions using thick studiospares acoustic tiles,

The DIY versions sounded a little too sucked out and I adjusted this to a point.... I then bought the SE reflexion!

The SE sounds more natural across the spectrum to my ear, and gives me the result I'd hoped for.

i got the "mic thing" and i like it.
works good. but be carefull - it can destroy your sound easy when over used. i allways double check before recording to find the right spot to place the mic inside the "mic thing". other than that it's very helpfull ...

I was kinda skeptical about the thing when i first got it, but it works. (and looks pretty cool) It does what it claims, and I am a believer now.

I own a Reflexion filter, I've used it on vocals and guitar cabs. It works well, it does exactly what it looks like it will do.

okay but if you go to RealTraps - Videos

go look at the one titled
PORTABLE VOCAL BOOTH DEMONSTRATION
Doug: Running time 1:33 - files about 3.3 MB

they give a demonstration with both the sE and the PVB and it clearly looks like the PVB is better. This why i find it hard to go with the sE even though it looks a 100 times nicer and is smaller

PVB i guess absorbs the sound rather then just reflex it which makes it more effective. Which makes sense. And the size be 4 times bigger seems like it would do a better job at collecting unwanted waves.

plus that ethan dude seems to know his shit. He's in like every accoustic forum on the net and a lot of people seem to repsect him

and for all you sE people out there i'm not saying it doesn't work. I'm just think the pvb may be more effective. The only reason for high numbers in the sE sales is because of the marketing. I see that thing everywhere and it took me a lot longer to find the PVB and it's only sold at that one website.

For portability, the SE Reflexion Filter wins hands down. I use it along with my mobile rig as a portable recording solution, so its smaller size while still being able to do the job is a god send. Not every place that I go to for collabing with others artists has a seperate recording booth, so i like the fact that I can carry it around with me to these place.
