Thread Starter | Hiss from compressor / wiring issue?
I just picked up a DBX 160A for compressing vocals on the way in. I just tried hooking it up and I am experiencing some serious hiss when I record. I suspect it might be due to my wiring. The output on the 160A has a balanced male XLR port and an unbalanced 1/4" jack, and all I have at the moment is a balanced 1/4" instrument cable which I plugged from the output of the 160A to the DI input 1 of my Digi 003 rack. I get a nasty hiss with this set up ![]() The Digi 003 manual says "The XLR connectors on the Inputs 1-4 are wired specifically to match the impedance of microphones. Do not use these XLR connectors for line inputs; use the 1/4" connectors instead." So does this mean I will need to buy a cable which has a female XLR on one side (to go in the compressor) and a 1/4" on the other side (to go into DI Input 1 on the 003) in order to make the 160A and Digi 003 play nice? I was surprised to see that the DBX 160A did not have a balanced 1/4" output |
