| Power Conditioning Can anyone recommend some good power conditioning/AC outlet gear? I've been looking through the Furman stuff on Sweetwater but I don't really get why some of these units are 3 or 400 bucks and others are upwards of 2g's. What type of unit should I be looking for for a modest to medium home setup (a few pieces of outboard, mpc, 3 keyboards, power mac g5, dj gear)?

how much gear do you have. if you only have a coupla peices of gear than you can do with just one of the little ones. I bought mine at GC for around 60 bucks. it has 4 plugs in the back. i have power strips plugged into those and i power about 13 peices of equipment. Mine even came with rack lights. which i thought was cool for adding to the visual effect of your rack

| if you really want it to go in your rack... get the furman. otherwise, just get a powerstrip, they're cheaper and identical. Furmans are glorified powerstrips. the end. |

The conditioner will take away electrical hum but you might be getting hum through your takes because you are recording in the same room as your pc and rack. the conditioner will not take away room hum from your equipment. i just moved my mic into the closet and treated it with aurelex and the hum is no longer present while recording. mY hum used to be bad and would drive me crazy while compressing because it became more apparent. The closet works trust me

| Lives for gear | The Monster Pro 2500 is nice and a lot less noise than the Furman PL8's.

| cool i'll check out the monster one. feedback i appreciate the advice but actually the hum can't be from mic or recording, i dont do that at my crib. All i'm doing is using logic and the mpc and a couple of keyboards and my audio interface has this nasty hum i never had at my old apt. Its even there when im just listening to music on it, not recording/producing anything.

| how do you have things plugged in? perhaps you have a ground loop going on? maybe the ground is not hooked up? I've never really noticed a difference when using a "power conditioner" I think they're more or less full of shit. |

| First thing I would try is putting EVERYTHING on the same outlet. See if that solves your problem in getting rid of the hum. I bought a Monster Power Pro 3500. I did so after a LOT of talking to mastering engineers about whether or not it improved their sound - there's a certain amount of voodoo science with whether or not these things help. Does it improve my audio? I don't know; I installed it when I moved my studio so I have no a/b, I know for sure it doesn't sound worse though. That said, I do know of guys who have used them live in venues where without them they were geting horrible interference with great success. I will say that I rather like being able to see the actual voltage in the room as well as how many amps I'm pulling; and it's nice to know it will shut everything off if the voltage goes wacky. FYI, some of this gear is marked up when sold for 'music' purposes. The 3500 is $300 at any music retailer, and $200 from any regular electronics retailer.
