Does this sound like a bad mix or hardware issue

This was posted in work in progress so please follow the link to hear the mp3..

i cant tell if there is a hardware issue with my chain.
the track is not mastered but has been mixed a bit
tell me what you think....does it sound like something is not being captured right or is it just mixed wrong

Im listening on ipod earbuds. I could use more lead actually. Id turn down the violin about a dB or so. Its competing with the vocals.

Nice work mayne! Holla if you need some vox done.

thanks son

I know the beat coulda been mixed a little better.

I actually recorded that for a dude i met as his starter track. to kinda feel him out and see what kinda work i was gona have to do to make him sound good, so that was a practice track. i just didnt want to commit to something that would take me forever on each project. but his new shit comming out is flame. and everything is done right.
The clarity on the new tracks makes them vocals look like childs play.
and i recorded that on a AT4040. Who said you cant get a good sound outa that

Not me lol... cause I have done so many times, through a great colorful sounding pre of course. AT mics in my opinion need good flavour sidekicks in what pres and/or compressors you record with. They are just too damn neutral for my liking.

The mix you did was what is was. Nothing struck me as sounding wrong about it IMO, although there are a few things about it that I would have done differently, but thats only because like all mixers everyone has there own personal touch and tastes in what their ears like to hear.

That track was sounding better than a lot of tracks I hear dudes trying to pass off as "pro" on myspace. Keep it up playa!
