Hello again JMH.

While I was sitting (and walking around the studio) mixing some track yesterday I thought, what is your approach to a mix, do you listen song one shot, or divide it to parts at the beginning, like starting to work with the chorus and then move to verse? I know that the answer will be the one of "It depends" category, but how do you like to work normally on a song, tiny bits moving to bigger ones or all song 1 take after another.?

Second thing,

About archives , do you write down your settings when finishing the mix, for future analising the paths or take only 1 shoot at a song and forget it? Is it often for you to go back on the mix?

Third thing and the last for now:

Why are you so in to LiL freq? What it has for you that you love so much?

Well, THX again for your answer.

P.S. I tried your email form 2 different addresses and still no success. Some1 must be sabotaging my messages or the opposite you get my mails, but I don't get your answers .

1!

Hey man regarding the email ive been responding to you from myh gmail account an i always respond back the last response was on dec 6

as for your question for my approach, i mention on the earlier threads that i listen to the track for awhile b4 starting approach but usaully vox first then proceeding to the next inst it could perc or keys.

we do recall notes for all our songs an archive to a system that has been modified by my eng Colin Miller (freakin genius)

why the lil freq well you have to try them its the best all around Eq the freq range on every spectrum is amazing its like have a neve, api, lang altogether thats my perception

now as for the email dawg im not sure whats goin on however if you want me to post it up hear so everyone can see i will i took a picture.if you send a private msg i figure that you didnt wany anyone to see,but never ever think i dont respond back

Man all I have to say is that we all hope someday have the same attitude of help that you have Jean, seriously. Besides your great talent, its not hard to see that this kind of attitude is what makes you stay on top of the game.

Thanks and congrats man, this should be our biggest lesson here.

Sold my 02r when I got my HD rig. I listened to a few older songs mixed on the 02r and those mixes had more separation and a little bit more depth.

Was contemplating a shift to 02r96 v2 and a few hardware pieces but had all but forgotten about it. reading ur comments and the comments of others I have run across this week has given new life to my dilemma.

i find that on any level spreading it out gives me a more depth mix
i do respect ITB mixes Phil Tan does amazing job (although i love his SSL mixes).i find using a simple mixer does the trick.

Yo Jean! Nice to have read this whole thread! It took me about an hour to do so
It's great to have you here on the board and I'm glad that you are willing to share your wisdom. I'm glad that you are not 1 of those guys who will do anything to keep mixing as mystical as it sometimes can get!

1. I have this question for you. As you're stated MANY times You mix on A U R A T O N E S!!! How do you check the lowend on this speakers, since the don't have any???

2. Who is your favorite artist or who do you want to work with?

Thanks again to take the time to answer all those questions!
Love and respect from The Netherlands!

Gr. Jimmy

Sorry if it sounded like I'm saying that you didn't wrote me back. I'm dizzy too about this. I've sent you mail today form my next email account that I have, this is on gmail also so it should be ok.

Continuing this recall option, so all your gear is linked and modified to recall settings, analogs, mackie, and rooting? How did you manage to do a recall modules on analog gear? For now my best "module" is a pen and some ghost sheets of my mixer and other otb and practicing drawing skills.
Or I go to itb and just sum on 0.

Another question that bothers me, In your voice first technique, if you have an album of a vocalist that has recorded all his takes in the same studio on similar settings, when you're satisfied with his voice on the first song, do you copy the setting then to the next songs as a starting point?

And another thing about voice, do you stack up and eq or eq and stack up, or eq stack up and eq?:) emmm... the question is, do you process voices before stacking?

Thank you 1000's times again .

whoa.
Essence? I was just listening to some crude cassettes of like 1989 "must be like that"... Doesn't matter what the sound quality is or when it was done, Go Go still cranks!

I've got about 100 tapes collecting dust all over the place, there is nothing in the world that I cherish more. My tapes are shows that not too many people on earth have. To this day, I can still follow all the congo beats to the smack. That's where my unique percussion skill comes from. My approach pretty much follows the same guidelines as Go Go.

I'm partial to NEG in the mid 90s though, but I love back, JYB, and of course, old school essense, trouble funk, even pumpblenders and protege and some of the low key stuff.

Ooops, my bad. I'm derailing a legendary thread.

ah Colin Miller he has a program which he developed that will monarch the analog world on recall notes its nuts, it should be out hopfully soon, he showed at aes this year to a cuople of our peers its freakin amazing.

all the songs take on its own persona at times some eq work but i usally take each song new that swhy my mixes has its own personality.we dont mix by numbers.its not cookie cutter mixing.that mean every mix sounds the sam B O R I N G!!!! i do some times hold the tone onn the first an alter the other eq's an comp not 1 song sounds the same.
