Great Post ninjaneer! This panel discussion was very informative, and had a lot of truth spoken in it, that a lot of "newbies" on here could learn from. The technology to make decent music is now more accessible than ever, but that doesnt necessairly mean that just because you go out and buy it that it will garuntee that you will make great sounding music. Let me begin by saying that I am an advocate for DIY, because sometimes you just cant count on other ppl to get stuff done for you. When I first started out in music as an artist, it wasnt very common for every dude on the block to own an Mbox, Emu 1820, Fireface 410, Delta 1010, etc., and a TLM103, so I had to get my ass into the studio to make a record. You cannot replace that type of experience, of being in the studio with grown ass ppl who have been doing what they have been doing for 20-30+ years, with a couple of books and DVDs on how to make a record, or how to master your own music. As a young musician, engineer, artist, whatever the case may be, you have to get outside of your basement, bedroom, where ever it is that you make all your creativity come to life (hopefully) and get involved with other ppl face to face who are doing the same things you are trying to do. You will grow a lot faster in experience, your confidence level in your abilities will grow, and you will learn more things faster hands on out in the real world than you will around your computer. Millions of us are now free to join in and make our own music with out all the limitations there were in the pass, but I bet you that only a small few out of those millions will ever take full advantage of the privilage they have been given. |
