echo audiofire 2?

is there any better 2-channel conversion in this price range? i'm looking for a firewire unit and not interested in preamps (i'll be getting those separately) just conversion.

any other units i'm overlooking? this will be my main unit for tracking/monitoring etc, should this be enough?

The audiofire 2 is really nice for the price. I have one for sell if your are interested? I used it while upgrading my main studio to a fireface. I use to have the audio fire 12 also but had to sell it for money reasons. the main difference between the 12 and the 2 where the hi end, on the 12 the hi end was more transparent then the 2, but compare it to its counterparts in its on league and it blows them out of the water!

audiofire 2 and 4 have the same akm ak4620a converters as rme fireface 400.
audiofire 8 and 12 have cirrus cs4272 converters. i think the same cirrus converters were used in apogee ensemble.
this is a quote from schwarzi on another thread.

just wanted to get some more thoughts before i went ahead and got it.

I'm looking at the audiofire8, I want something that I can use the pre's also. I will eventually get a nice mic pre but I want to be able to record into the interface pre until then. Everyone raves about the echo interfaces but what about the pre's, how usable are they. I am looking at either the echo audiofire8,focusrite sapphire pro10 and the motu ultralite. any advice on the best all around deal
