I'm a laser engineer (hence the monicker) and used to be an electronic technician.
It certainly comes in useful when things need to be repaired!

I've been full time and then some at this for quite a while now, but when i was a youngin i worked for Allied Van Lines moving people in and out of their houses, 5 to 6 days a week usually 8 to 12 hours a day. That was the best job i ever had because i vowed that i would become the best @$^%*$^&^ producer/engineer on the planet so i would never have to go back to that job. Most of the guys i worked there with were lifers. i cant imagine.

I did concrete demolition for 6 years running a 90 lbs. jackhammer. I knew nothing about music nor computers, only thing I knew was I didn't want to run that hammer ANYMORE even though I was making $20+ an hour w/ benifits! Never looked back, and have been working in the industry ever since graduation 4 1/2 years ago. I am now a major label artists engineer.

the heart is dumb

My day job is PROduction. On the sat/ sun I'm general manager of Bananas at Large http://www.bananas.com. I also I.T. at a place called Commonweal in Bolinas, Ca every now and again. Freelance works pretty well also. We have a nice recording studio in Rohnert Park, Ca, and you can probably find me there. Oh, and I'm making a rap record with a transplant from LA.

thats pretty funny actually that you made the jump from jackhammer to engineer. that hammer had to f*ck up your hearing.

I picked up and delivered the $$MONEY$$$ to and from banks for Loomis and before that AT Systems. Can't really tell you too many details about it, but I carry a HK .45 USP full size, and sometimes 2 or 3 guns on me total. I've been in Chuck E Cheese, malls, everywhere. I've taken my gun out many times, sometimes every day. Scary job but you gotta be watching everyone's hands and eyes within 15 feet of you or so. Almost shot a manager once, who thought it would be funny to pretend to be robbing the office. I locked the door behind me and spoiled his plans, stupid ass. He got fired. BTW when you peep my myspace, watch my video!!

Was doing merchadising for Nike. Now I own my own commercial studio and production company, and business is really picking up, so I took the leap towards doing it full time.

Used to be into it full time for seven years, on the road about 6 months a year. Having missed my firstborn's birth, I decided to cut down on touring and see my kids grow up. Now I'm working as a political scientist in a national social science research institute.
I'm still doing music mainly working on my own jazzy dub hop productions in my humble home studio (mpc2000xl, logic pro, clavia nord mod, jomox mbase, space echo and spring 'verb).
This way I got my mind, body and soul covered.
Now if there were 48 hours a day, that would be the isht.

Damn, I still think about maybe being a firefighter sometimes. I heard that's a great job. Music is pretty unstable sometimes and stressful.

Back in The Old Country (Denmark) I used to be a university lecturer in Mass Communications specializing in The Aesthetics of Television (sports television in particular).

Doing music is much and I got really tired of the whole anaytical thing and the fact that you're not allowed to 'just like something because you do' in the university environment. It's pretty joyless if you're not careful and for that reason not really my cup of tea.

I do miss the female students though

Sigh... the joys of unemployment.

I'm still going to school. Getting my BA next semester. I part-time at a security agency office, was doing administrative work there over the summer. Now I work as an on-call manager, its easy and I can work from home over my phone. I just deploy security guards when someone lazy calls out.

Before that I was delivering and serving burgers at a mom n pop burger shop. I've also had a bunch of boring clerical jobs and worked retail at J. Crew (I hate retail).

I'll probably try to find another internship next semester, hopefully at a recording studio. Btw, if anyone is interested in hiring an intern in NYC feel free to PM me =)

Might hold off graduation to study abroad for a semester and then hopefully go to grad school next year.

all kinds off work .. but last 15 years IT ... network-administrator in high-shools ...
down to 2 days a week right now .... hope to be able to quit in 4/6 months and go full for the music .... but three kids/house/wife makes me a bit carefull ...

focussed 300% on music .... these last 2 days IT a week are boring .. I could use my time so much better ... but again it's nice to have some collegas to chat .. otherwise I would be stuck in de masteringroom 24/7 and maybe get lost ...

Much respect to all!

I produce beats when I'm not engineering in the studio. I'm 36 now and I've been doing it full time for 11 years! Living the dream, or at least a quarter of it!

Peace,

Just be sure not to get your ass thrown in jail again...
Too much talented guys choose to waste their time with street foolishness that dont make any sense in these times, instead of opening their mind to whats really out there around them, and putting their talents to good use. Going to school is gonna be a very big experience, especially if you are going to a different city for it.
Just dont forget to keep up with the grind you are already on music wise. If you grind hard enough, after you finish school you should have very good opportunities layed out in front of you to make some good money using those skills you have just learnt... and you wont have to waste anytime pouring anybodies damn coffee either lol.
