short delay is cool..depending on the cut. a little chorus is cool sometimes. i use a little Izotope Trash sometimes. experimenting is the key |

Scratching (real vinyl atleast) requires you to cut a chunk of the lows already in the recording process, probably on the dj mixer beeing used, otherwise you can end up with a nasty low rumble effect that can be hard to get rid off. The records moves back and forth and rumble appears so cut that low while recording. Not too much but just enough. Also if the center-hole on the vinyl record is too big it will rumble more so putting a piece of paper to fill that gap will make the rumble go away alot more. And about effects on scratching, depends on what type of scratching it is really. If its fast and technically advanced chances are itll just sound like a mess if you put reverb or echo on it. If its simpler cuts like dj premier choruses echoes can be nice to fill some gaps. Just some advice. |

chorus. most vinyl still sounds "mono" these days, chorus makes the source more obvious. |

ditto on this. i always cut out at least 6 db of lows on my dj board to prevent the speakers from pumping from all of those seriously low frequencies. you can get a lot of low frequency content from room feedback, the handle hitting the vinyl and from the needle moving back and forth in the groove. i would think a very steeped low shelf cut would do the best here to keep any desired low end content intact. as for effects i keep an electrix mo-fx in my effects low going into my rane empath. delay, flanger, tremolo, distorition, all great for scratching. the only effect that i still like to add to it is some reverb. flavor to taste! | |
