I have always thought about getting a boombox with an audio input and hooking it up permanently but have never done it.

I do that. I got the idea from Charles Dye who uses sony computer monitors. And I thought well I could use my sony boom box. And it does help.

somewhere i was reading people use those mixcube speakers to replicate shitty boomboxes and car systems

A review of the Avant Electronics Avantone MixCube passive close-field monitor | Avant Electronics Avantone MixCube review

all i have to do there i guess is turn off my sub and my m1 actives sound shitty enough without the high-pass filter being applied to em :)
