He touched on the single thing that can put hiphop back to where it should be.....

DO YOU!!!!

F*CK trying to "get on." Those days are over.

Make people love YOU and not the fad.
People try to chase the fad because they figure they can "get on" a lot quicker....which shows why the hunger and the love is no longer a factor in the game.

Great advice.

the only thing i don't get is andre is in his top five and nas isn't
eventhough i kinda agree, he often picks weak beats.

Loved what he said about folks not learning enough about their keyboards and complaining that they have used every sound. Damn. That has always bugged me out.

Man. I knew a violinist who played for over 40 years and he still said he learned new stuff from his instrument everyday.

His point about Nas had some value, but I felt that he stayed safe when talking about Jigga. That's all about a salary. i understand him on that.

But, he spoke from experience and personal conviction too.

Need more of that.

Peace.

Guru's come a long way... He's the only touring DJ (Nonchalant) I've met to parlay his career into a sucessful engineer I've met... More DJ's should do the same... to me it just makes sense...

Yeah Guru, Thats Whats UP !!!

You got to love it for the sake of the music. The money and the fame is "sometimes" the end result, but real heads grind for the music. I'm talkin about all of the crate diggers and dudes mastering keys, to further take their craft to a new level.

F**K following, take a chance and blaze your own trails.

East Coast, West Coast, Mid-West or Dirty-South, I don't care...just kill all the whack shit!!!

Really fantastic. Thanks for posting. I found the section about the inability to foresee the end of powerhouse musical trends especially thought-provoking.

you misunderstood what he said. he said the new york brand of hip hop was sampling records...he said that NY was following behind trends. he also said you could make "keyboard beats" if you knew how to PLAY the keyboard.

Really? I thought he was pretty brave saying the last jayz album was rushed and wasnt as good as it could've been. I dunno if i'd say something like that about my employer on a youtube video, I give him props for that.
