Switching from Acid Pro to...

Sonar 6 Producer Edition, Cubase SX3, or an MPC?

Why would i want to to switch, and why? before ya'll phuckin ride my ass, I've been sequencing in Acid for a few years now, and both Sonar and Cubase require me to jump through a bunch of hoops to add just a simple VST, whilst Acid does it at a touch of a button...Why would I consider either one? And by all means, with the quantizisatin, why the phuck would i buy an MPC when my system will do all the mapping? Whats so gawd damn good about these anyway? lol

before yall burn, this would be a good sticky as many questions would be answerd.

Well there's lot's of things that MPC can help you out with. And if you will use search on this forum- you'll have tons of topics about it.
MPC works great for me, and I can't imagine myself working with anything else.
Sometimes you are just sitting in front of it, and then you push a few pads, just to hear some sound, and then BAM- you got a new thing coming up!

hmm.. are they worth the $2300?? I've used the search fucntion plenty of times even before I was a member of this board...sorta tired myself out...

What I've gotten from it was that an MPC acts the same way as a keyboard, just a little more simple...and I could load 100's of synths in my DAW and program them the same, without having to spend the kind of money it would be for an MPC 4000 plus the extra samples..

Is $2300 worth buying an MPC? depends.....

In your case I couldnt see you justifying the need for spending that type of cash, unless you have excess money to burn. The MPC is no longer as essential to hip hop production as it was years ago.
A lot of the long time professional MPC users are now saying that they can achieve the same type of results in the box.
But if it helps your creativity, and fits within your workflow, and you have an uncontrollable fetish for it, and you can justify the cost, then go copp it.

I have a 2KXL and really think its about hardware sequencing. All the mouse clicking to make a track is very uninspiring, even the trigger finger, mpd24 and all key controllers are missing an interface, its something about being able to push 1 button and play the keys that is inspiring, no joke, they have huge libraries of great sounds now, but having to open one, then open another to find a sound isnt gonna work for me, i turn the jog wheel and play, same with the MPC, load sounds or have it control a module. Go on ebay and get a 2000, they are dirt cheap and play with it for a WEEK, if u dont like it, sell it at a minimum loss, a lot of people here say they messed with an mpc and just go to guitar center for an hour and say they dont like it, bullshyt, use it for a week and see what u think.

Hardware is always more fun and interesting to use when making a joint, but not everyone has enough money to justify the cost of needing an MPC. With that same amount of money you spend on an MPC, you can buy control surfaces, like a drumpad, mixer, or keyboard, and integrate them within your setup, and still have money left over to buy some sounds.

Some mouse clicking will always come into play these days, as most ppl use computer based DAWs like Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Nuendo for sequencing now. Some major players in the game are now opting to do all their sequencing and productions ITB. Why? because they want to save money, and because they want to have everything all-in-one, not having to go from pieces of hardware, to pieces of hardware for different sounds.

Its all up to your style, do what you think is best. I personally think you are better off with out it IMO. I have all my MPC and drum machine sounds exported into a refill that i use with Reason's Redrum machine to sequence drum patterns. The MPC plays a bigger part as a trigger device for drums than it does as an actual sequencer these days.

i work in acid , i use to want to get rid of acid but the sequencing in 6.0 , is very good(compared to A5) when you edit with the inline editor. what i want in acid is midi pluggins like in cubase/nuendo.

i have been using acid and reason together for yrs. , nothing maipulates audio better than acid to me.

good luck.

p.s. if you want a virtual mpc, a friend of mine is trying to get what the mpc does out of his computer, he is a die hard mpc user, and he said Guru is like working mpc on the computer.

Reason is like this for me. I'm loving it now that I got my Trigger Finger.

i dont really get this. if you don't have a reason to switch or know why you want to switch, why are you switching anything?
