 | No Preamp won't work You won't be able to skip using a preamp in your signal chain if you're wanting to use most microphones. The signal simply won't be strong enough. At least use the preamps on the mBox.

| OK. So long as he's not recording outside near the freeway, he should be fine.  Frost has no budget for any upgrades -- so this should be sufficient enough for demos, learning, developing workarounds, figuring out how to make do, and making up for deficiencies with ingenuity. That's how to up and come. You don't have to spend big (yet), just work big.
