Percussion (Bump Like This)

I love the percussion sounds in the chorus of Kelly Rowland's Bump Like This ... has anyone got any idea of where these type of sounds can be sampled or found ... and maybe some processing tips to help get some sounds with this kinda vibe ...

Peace

your midi game has to be top notch, otherwise you need to hire a "real" tabla player.
very expressive instrument, so a lot of layering needs to be done.

not really, go to bigfish audio's website and grab a loop cd...i think i have the exact one he used... its called "sounds of india" or something.. they give a loop of a whole percussion section playing, and then give you the seperated loops of what each instrument was playing, so you can layer them however you want... its like 75 bucks

i've had that cd for so long, that when i heard the kelly track i was like thats so cheesy, i've been purposely staying away from anything indian for the past two years..

Reason got some hot tabla loops packed with it that i have used so much times in the past to the point where its totaly played out for me.

I haven't heard any new production out on the mainstream this summer that is fresh enough to turn my head. My thoughts are that producers are starting to get too lazy or too "safe" and just opt to use the same old played out sounds ppl are accustomed to.
No surprise that the video gaming industry is now surpassing the music industry in sales. At least ppl in the game industry arent afraid to go out on a limb and try something new.

is there some different version? cos the one i'm listening to has just a single table hit going thru a rolling delay which makes the repeated notes, thats it

I swear, I never ever used a single beat/drum loop sample in my whole life......well, except for the ones I made.

and yeah, it sounds out of place on that record.
while it sounds like a dholki, I'm pretty sure its just a tabla (without the baya).

and you can really make a tabla "speak".
I'll let the master speak for himself:
Alla Rakha and Ravi Shankar - bow down mortals

I love it, maybe a little less than the handmade ghanese djembe I have.
now that thing has a sound.

you might be right ill look more into it but im pretty sure i heard her say Swizzy. I never really cared much for this song or the album for that matter. Kelly is a great singer (imo the best one in destinys child) but her albums don't show it.

i actually just got back from an idian vocalist concert. it was out of the ordinary for me, but interesting. just tabla (Samir Chatterjee), harmonium(Rajendra Vaishampayan), and two vocalists(Pandit Jasraj and his nephew)...supposedly dude is a living legend, i know nothing of indian music so i don't know of him...but i was checking out the tabla player the whole time, the subleties that go into that instrument is amazing. dude on the tablas was killing it the whole time.

I can see how the tabla might seem out of place on this track, but I personally think it MAKES the song. Love it.

A like a lot of tracks on the album... Can't wait for it to drop. Compared to a lot of stuff that's out right now, it sounds like actually music.

I agree, its about time she stepped up again with music of this calibur for R&B, I wish her well on the success of this album.

So does the drumming on pots and pans from a highly skilled toddler lol. Everything that sounds decent enough for the mainstream gets thrown out there, its all in your preference of whether you like it or not.

Wow, why did they use a different beat for "Still In Love With my Ex"? The original was MUCH better! Good album though.
