Getting that first placement...

How did you get your first placement? Do you have any suggestions for someone trying to get their first placement? Are my beats even good enough to even be worrying about placements? (you can hear a few here: www.myspace.com/itsdlmproductions)

Thanks in advance.

I got mines by networking and collaborating..its nothing big..just a indie artist backed by Sony...still waiting on the check and agreement before i send the the tracked out files.. I just do a collaboration with another artist for a Cage fighter theme music..so im happy about that..

just network...that the best advice i can give you..i cant listen to myspace sites at work..so i wont be able to listen to your music to give some feedback..

First big placement the year is with Atlantic, just like everyone else waiting for the paperwork and check. It never ends.

the big thing is to keep pushing, stay hungrey. Do remixes and build a relationship with as many DJ's, promoters, and club owners as possible so you can help push spins!!!!

Dont give up!!!!

Also build your contact list up.

I still say emal my assitaint about getting this list we have, it cost but it's worth it.

The only reason why we charge is because we are giving up our contact that are for real. our list has A&R's, Record Pools, DJ emails, TV, Radio and film, and insider info, and mom and pops all over the country. All up to date!

As a matter of fact the list I have, is how I got the Justin Timberlake and Chris Brown Remixes! They sent the Accp straight from the label real shit!

It not like a A&R Registrey its the real deal built by us for producers!

Its hot!

1. Networking
2. Being in the right places at the right times (Studios, Showcases, Beat Battles)
3. Grinding
4. Having quality music
5. Paying dues (Old cliche, but it's soooooo true)

That's my .02

sorry for saying that, but you shouldn´t think about getting a placement. actually your sound is not good enough. use better samples/sounds/vst´s whatever to get the right sound. it´s like hearing wavetable sounds when i get at your track with the piano

Could you say more of how you think my beats could be better? Because what you said doesn't really help me very much.

listenin, to end of days... hmm different type of beat, tell you the truth i like it, strings sound too generic, drums knock, hit status??? questionable

next

skip down to Broken Dream, lol, cry me a river status, be careful, that pattern sounds alot like JTimberlakes song, as a matter of fact I think its the same exact key too, Scratch that beat, you'll get sued, but the beat is clean, could be hit... but like I said, dont be surprised if Scott Storch knocks on your door and asks you "Excuse Me Mother ****er But Who Do You Think You Are??? Scott Storch??"

Depth Charge, ok you got something here, nice club banger, needs something more for a hook, but that can be a hit, that has a commercial feel

Stomp... no, no good, not a commericial feel, that kick is ****ing banging tho, shiiiiitttt ill trade you kick for kick on that 1

it sounds like you are using reason to play piano keys and manually drawing them out rather than playing them, therefore giving your pianos no dynamic feel, get a midi keyboard and start playing, instead of drawing them in

^lol It's not THAT similar to "Cry Me A River". Definitely no grounds for a lawsuit there. I basically agree with your comments, though.

DLM, I think you need a lot more development. I'd say your strong point is some decent drum samples. Your weakest point is choice of piano (1st track) and guitar (or whatever it is in the 2nd track) sounds. And work on the "feel" of everything. As is, the beats sound very canned. Also, the melodic elements aren't very melodic, and they certainly aren't something that'll stick with a listener.

hey man, i have to say sorry for my first post! i just heard 2 songs! end of days first and then stomp ms kidd.

after that i quit hearing but the other 2 songs are really cool tho..

but end of days got a really bad instrumentation. these strings plus this "midi-piano" just sounds not good. how you could get it better?

use better sounds which sounds more natural.

now, after telling someone else negative things about his work i have to show you mine to show respect, aight?

look for signed artists on da myspace. most have a "send beats email" listed on their pages. U can get lucky if u got heat. More and more signed artists been getting beats this way. Payouts aint much if they use it or some may only use it for a freestyle and u get no $. either way u get ya credit and u on ur way.

Hey whatsup Justice, I got a guy named Jay from my business relations department to contact your assistant a couple weeks ago after reading a post on here where you gave out your contact info.

Im out here up North, looking to start extending my business to the states.

I got some decent contacts across Canada, but as we all know, more lucrative business can be done when you are well connected to whats going on with the U.S. market.

My business manager has contacts at Warner Music Canada, Sony BMG, and a producer my manager is in contact with right now has a good insider at Koch. Despite this my focus at the moment is on branching out and expanding to other regions across the border first before i finalize and cut any deals.

We gotta chat about some bizz real soon and see how we can be of help to each others business ventures.

Hey, my first cut was through using a tip sheet. There are two that I would still use called songquarters and myhitfactory. Pitching is hard though so prepare to spend 2 hours a day chasing people up to see if they listened!!
