| What to look for in an internship? What's goin on peoples. I recently started an intership at a studio, but it's not the first one I chose to go with. Just wondering from some experienced heads what kind of things should I be looking to walk away with in terms of experience and knowledge. Basically want to know what consitutes a bad internship from a good intership, besides the obvious of "it's what you make of it". |

| If you can walk away knowing how to operate every single piece of equipment in the building and run your own sessions without having to ask for help from anyone and have your own list of clients.... Then that would be doing pretty good... ![]() Is this a full time placement or just a temporary 2 week thing? Whatever it is - congrats & good luck with it.. ![]()

| It's part time in the sense that I only put in a little over 20 hours a week because I work full time during the day, but as far as the duration the office manager told me it could be anywhere from 6 months to a year. I basically have a checklist of things to learn and complete before I finish the intership. Things like learning different pieces of equipment in the studio to pressing up CDs for clients. But in terms of placement I don't believe you are guaranteed any kind of position at the end of your term. I figure if you show them you would be an asset to the studio they would most surely offer you something but nothing guaranteed. |

| That's the way it works. You're not gonna really learn the gear as an intern, though. Show up early, work hard, and clean the toilet really nice. Next step after interning is runner - where you'll be doing the same but get paid minimum wage for it. Keep working hard and learn the equipment and you'll make it to assistant engineer. Watch, listen, and learn from the engineers that you'll be assisting and you'll be on your way. Oh yeah, don't talk too much.
