Smile I told you guys - T-Pain doesn't use AutoTune

Straight from the horse's mouth:

HHDX: Your use of the vocoder makes you stand out in the game – was that something that you came along by chance or was it just a decision on your part?
T-Pain:
Honestly, I came across it by chance. It just happened. I didn’t plan on that making me into the person that I am. I wasn’t trying to do it, at first. I was just really into making music. So, the using of the vocoder had just came about out of nowhere, but I’m glad that it’s worked for me.

its definitely autotune....so many artists that are out should have to pay royalties to Antares..Autotune is the main vocalist on too many tracks

oh come on...you may be a newbie to gearslutz, but are you a newbie to Google too?

In music more than anywhere, you have to do your own legwork...and the antares site would explain it a whole lot better than anyone will do in a quick paragraph here.

new artist on Konvict, Ray Lavender, uses auto-tune on his "my girl got a girlfriend" song as well. Only song out of the 5 i have heard that uses it though. Alot of folks thought he was T Pain at first.

Well, it damn sure ain't a vocoder. If it's not Autotune, then it's some variant of Autotune.

It's my experience that most people don't even know the difference between a vocoder, talkbox, and pitch correction.
The vocoder seems to get credit for all of the unique vocal effects.

This thread is fruity...... All it consists of is just crazy pitch bending of the vocals. You dont even need antares to do it. Yea most ppl use auto tune to get the effect, but its not the only thing or only way. There arent a lot of outstanding singers these days anyway, if you ask me auto-tune is a blessing. The day we start seeing more amazing singers immerge from the shadows is the day we will be done with Auto-tune discussions.

its 100% auto-tune. you can hear the autotune on a lot of mainstream r&b albums where they aren't even going for that effect, auto tune has a very particular sound to it once you learn it, so i dont get how people could even be questioning what t-pain uses when he uses it so heavily.

never listen to producers or artists when they say what they use in interviews or endorsements. i dont know if its because they're paranoid about safeguarding their secrets or they just don't know half the time, but just because some dude says he uses sonar or some plugin in an interview definitely does not mean he uses it in real life.

the one thing all these successful guys do use is work ethic...unfortunately that doesn't come in a box for $250.

I was gonna say the same thing. People get these 2 things confused all the time because they have a similar robotic sound. It's an tuner simple and plain. People act like he's the first to do it too! lol!

t-pain vox chain

ok, this post is way too long. i can tell you that T-pain, aka teddy penderassdoun aka teddy versetti aka blah blah blah recorded the majority of "Epiphany" his last album thru an 87 to a neve 1073 then to a neve 33609 and straight smack into auto-tune directly to track. nuff said. now discuss Chris Brown or go paint your nails.

I really truely honestly wonder what version of Autotune it is. 4 or 5? maybe version 3?

Is it the RTAS , VST, or TDM version??

Does he use an outboard tuner to tune Autotune before tuning his vocals?? What brand and model?
