e6400Ultra or Softsamplers

I'm very close to brining my E6400Ultra out of retirement. I just don't find the softsamplers that intuitive for my custom melodic samples(i F**kin love Battery for drums though!).

Am I crazy, should I stop being lazy and just use kontakt and sampletank, both of which I already own, or pull the emu out and work like I did years ago...

anyone else feeling similar??

When PT Mix 3 was out alot guys i knew were using E6400s as a front end to pro tools. Emu's converters are really good. It has a sound that can't be beat in many cases by software. It just depends on what you need.

I used to have a Roland S-750 and i don't miss it at all. I use Kontakt for all my sampling needs nowadays.

You really should learn to use Kontakt properly. Take a day or two and read the manual and really try out stuff. Could be that you don't turn on the EMU for weeks after that. Then you sell it if you need the cash.

On the other hand you might still prefer the EMU. Workflow is king. Just don't dismiss Kontakt because you have'nt taken the time to learn it properly.

I have a feeling you're probably right...I've just been so dissapointed with how Kontakt(especially all NI Plugs, and others for that matter) work in Pro Tools. From my understanding from peers, NI doesn't have NEARLY the problems in Logic and other formats it does as RTAS plugs in Pro Tools. I can't say it enough....NI really ****ED us pro tools users(and digi shares the fault too i'm sure) with how inneficient their plugs work in PT

Well in that case i suggest you keep the EMU. Nothing destrys workflow like bugs and crap. Or are there other issues ?

I use Kontakt in Cubase and it works perfect for me. The way i work i'd never encountered any bugs. And it is stable as well.

I dunno. Just use what feels best for you. If you're happy woth the EMU i see no reason not to use it. But give Kontakt a fair chance first.

Personally I sold my E-mu because it was a pain to use. Bought an MPC with the money. Although the MPC's sample engine is no where near as powerful as the EMU its way easier to use and I spent a lot more time writing as opposed to making patches and troubleshooting...
