Thread Starter | Methods of tracking an MPC into Logic?
Fellow slutz - I regard your collective knowledge as the last word when it comes to these things. So... I want to track my MPC 2500 parts into audio tracks on Logic Pro. Which methods do you find best? There are different ways of sync'ing and even after reading the manual a few times, it's still a bit of a cloudy issue for me. I would like to use the 2500 as the master, rather than slave (and keep all the quantization goodness etc). Gotta do it the slutty way. Obviously. |

In my experience, Logic does not like being slave to the mpc. When you try to do this, logic's tempo jumps all over the place and gets out of sync (with an mpc 2000xl). If the MPC 2500 can send MTC out, that may work better than midi clock. I don't have my mpc around right now, but in the past I've set logic as the master (using mtc i think) and the mpc will keep it's feel. Then I just solo the parts (or send them to different outputs) that I want split and record them in Logic. Hope that helps. |

Thanks district78 - will give that a try. Yeah, I did notice the tempo jumping about in Logic. |

I used to put the 2000 into logic all the time. just put logic into slave mode, solo your mpc tracks and record, what we used to do is record 8 bars of a 4 bar loop because your gonna get some lag time when logic first starts, then cut it at bar 5.

| Your tempo is jumping because the mpc's tempo isn't steady, just like any other board that you put in there. I've found that logic's tempo is more accurate than other progs.

I've always tracked MPC's into DAWs Digital Performer and Nuendo using the MPC in slave mode using MIDI beat clock. The timing has always been rock solid.

Well thanks for the replies. I'm still getting to grips with the MPC 25k, but I'm loving it. MIDI Clock seems fine for the time being, with Logic being the master. The swing was still there and it seems to work well.
