Thread Starter | Good Reference Headphones... I've found myself in a quite mobile situations... I will be going from here to there all summer... So small monitors are actually out of the question. But i can get a 25 key Midi Controller, a 300 GB external drive, motu ultralite/mbox, but i need very very very good headphones... Headphones that will be good to monitor on as well as accurate, at low to mid volume.... Been thinking about the Senheisser HD25's but i really have no idea... Any advice would be greatly appreciated, also cost is a bit of a factor. |

| The hd25's are closed back and more for dj'ing ect. You would be better off with something like the hd650 if open back headphones aren't a problem. Best bet is to do a search on here probably thumbsup |

| Gear maniac | I agree with some of the posts, I've always been an AKG fan. I used some AKG K-240's for about 5 years and loved them until they just broke a couple weeks ago. Very crystal clear, and non-fatiguing at high volumes. It was kind of an impulse purchase, but since there were no AKG K-240's in stock at any of my local stores, and I needed some phones to do a session, I picked up a pair of the new Sony MDR 7509 HD. The Sony's I have found to be great so far. They are definately as comfortable as the AKG's if not more. As for the sound, the easiest way I can describe it is very smooth. If you could consider the AKG's as crystal clear as digital, then the Sony's could be desribed as warm like analog. They definately have a slight bit more bass than the AKG's, and the mid's don't seem as in your face or harsh. They seem to be very unfatiguing at high volume, and for long listening periods. In listening to some Professional Retal CD's, the Sony's have also picked up sounds in the recordings that I never heard with my AKG's. You can pick up the Sony's now for like $200 or just under. I would recommend them highly. I might still use AKG's for some projects simply because I'm so used to using them, and even got used to mixing with them, but Sony has got a new fan in me with the 7509HD's. | I am a headphone fanatic. If you are mixing I would stay away from the 7509s although they are pretty good for tracking. The pimpest headphones for alot of that stuff are the Sennheiser HD580s HD600s and HD650s. Sennheiser makes many pairs of great cans. My second favorite pair of cans are AKG 240DFs. They are a beatiful headphone with a relaxed sound that is very mixable. Use open back headphones for mixing (if you must mix with headphones) and closed back for tracking. Maybe you should try out the ultrasones. I hear alot of buzz about those but have not used them. |
