| Good Albums to Study Production Wise I am currently looking for good albums to study, production wise, in the genre's of hip hop, pop, and R&B. So far I have been listening to today's current hits and early 90's stuff and breaking down the song formats of them. I have been studying a lot of Neyo's stuff, just the format he writes his songs. 50 Cents hooks, as well as Akon's. Also, please throw in some rock albums or any genre that would be good to study. I would like to listen to something different, other than rap/R&B. Thanks in advance..... |

| Damn, I forgot my dude Nicolay his stuff sounds like prince playing over Dr.Dre's and Premier's drums. He plays a couple instruments. His drums bang and he has the music theory down. Check out foreign exchange, or city lights and here on itunes. |

| Gear maniac | I agree with that Deltron 3030 comment, Automator killed it on that one. Perfect blend of everything from old school dirty drums and samples, to records, to futuristic synths and patterns. I don't know if it's the best "sonically-engineered" album, but it's definately one of the better produced in the last 5 years. My 2cents Antagonist www.myspace.com/leftcoastrider |

| The Eightball "Lost" Album has some great production on it. One of my top 5 of all time.

| Roy Hargrove's group, the RH Factor, "Hard Groove" album (jazzy hip-hop). This was tracked and mixed by Russ Elevado, great stuff sonically and musically. |

| Gear maniac | Ooohhh Stoneface, I almost forgot about that one. Lost has Eight sounding the best he ever did. Amazing that he could never get that sound working with Puff and the gillion dollars worth of studio's that Puff has access to. Right there proves it's the moment, the ears, and the art. Not the producer, the studio, and the money. Antagonist www.myspace.com/leftcoastrider |

| Definately check out Madvillian (MF Doom and Madlib), just as an example of how you dont need a millions of dollars worth of gear to make a great album. Creativity goes a looooong way. |

| Gear maniac | Not an album per se, because I'm not that happy with "all" the production on the album. But when it comes to "perfect" sounding hip hop tracks, I always go to Tupac's Shed So Many Tearz off of the Me Against the World Album. Pac was a lyricist that was notoriously difficult to record. He'd spend countless hours in the studio and often get hoarse. He was extremely dynamic in his delivery, and often a little banged up off the chronic and hennessey. Johnny J has often been touted as the one guy who was able to bring a sound out of Pac that nobody else was. I think Shed So Many Tearz is a perfect example of this. I don't think Pac has ever sounded so clear and present on a vocal track, and the beat is a perfect pop mix. Antagonist www.myspace.com/leftcoastrider |
