Recording Audio in Protools

Whenever I record a audio sequence into pro tools, the first kick or hit of the first bar is never fully captured. It usually just catches the end of the first kick Anyone have any suggestions? Does this have to do with latency? Any ways to solve this or work around this? All help is appreciated. I got the digi002r by the way.

maybe you should add a blank bar to the beginning of your sequence before you track it in, that way the midi won't mis-trigger anything at the start of the loop. then just chop it up and fly it out

Im not using midi just audio. I record a sequence on my mpc then I let the sequence play and record it into protools. Should I still just add a blank bar at the beginning and then chop it off once im done recording? Thanks for ya'll help, I appreciate it.

That's what I would do, but I don't understand why you would be having this issue in the first place... you might wanna try and track that down.

Uh.... hmmm....

Try this:

Start recording in Pro Tools, then press play on the MPC.

Always record a bit before and after the take/part that you want, because you can always go back and trim it down later, but you can never recover something that was cut off.

Yes, just what Gear Tramp said, start recording in Pro Tools first. Sliding the recorded region to the beginning won't be any problem.

In addition to everyone else's suggestions (pressing the "REC" button before you hit the "play" button of the MPC), you should try to figure out MMC and MTC in Pro Tools. That way, your MPC tracks will line up with the grid and editing will be much, much easier.

Once that is figured out, you can control the MPC's transport from Pro Tools. Then the problem is solved by specifying a MIDI countoff, a pre-roll, or both.

Good luck,
++aldo

I have pretty bad "latency" problems with my motif when dumping audio into pro tools. I have had the thing for 6 years and have never been able to get it to sync perfectly with pro tools. this is what I do:

1.if you are recording a loop from the MPC, let the loop run for say..8 measures.
2. Then tab to transient on the beginning of the second measure.
3. slice the audio at the beginning of the second measure.
4. delete the first measure.
5. Duplicate, duplicate, duplicate........ the second measure.
voila!

If you are dumping in song mode, good luck figuring it out cause I never have been able to.

I have an MPC 2000 xl. what i do is sync it by mtc leave 2 empty bars at beggining for midi delay and ur done. That way your pt session will always sync up to your song in case u want to change sounds or beats later on.

Set your H/W Playback Buffer lower when recording. Remember this rule of thumb...

To minimize latency when recording (both audio and midi), set the H/W playback buffer as low as it can go without getting errors.

To maximize your systems processing capabilities when editing and mixing, set the H/W playback buffer as high as it can go.

Get there by going to: Setup > Playback Engine
