| Bass sounds on DJ Unk's 'Two Step'/ T.I.'s 'Beat Down Low'...What the hell is that!? This is gonna sound stupid, cause I'm not really in the hip hop field, but I always keep my ear wide open cause there are alot of fantastic sounds coming off of these new mainstream hip hop records. It's really mostly just for the sake of learning some new things, but does anybody know what is being used for those massive 'underneath' kick/bass sounds that kind of step down in pitch into the kick drum on songs like that new "Two Step" track by DJ Unk? Those drum tracks are ****ing out of this world cool. I also hear them in the new T.I. song as well. Out of curiosity, what the hell are they using to make those sounds? It's a pretty familiar sound on alot of records, so I assume it's from the same or similar source. Is that just some 808 stuff, or just some sine waves with more pronounced attacks on them? Any info would be great. halcyo |

| The T.I. song is produced by Mannie Fresh, who has been known to re-sample his 808s into his E-mu Sp-1200. I have no idea why/how it works, but allegedly, the SP-1200 gives it an extra thud/bounce. |

| So it's an 808 kick sampled, then pitch shifted to different tones? It's a really cool sound. Anybody else have any other specific info? halcyo |

| Various people have their own subtle techniques, but yes...that's generally what you're hearing. :) |

| Gear maniac | That song is a high 808 sample that drops into a low 808 sample. |

| I've only heard it on the radio, which is obviously bad place to judge a mix, but it sounded ok to me...What don't you like about it? I personally like these particular sounds in the DJ Unk track better, but they are pretty similar. Or are they? halcyo |

I'm not really disagreeing with you at all, but you sound pretty bitter about it.... I mean, the groove kicks like a bitch and audiences love it and it gets 'em all hyped up. They are doin' SOMETHIN' right, aren't they? halcyo | |
