Does not have a 6k pre budget for home studio

I have a 002r and want to get better pres. I can't afford 8 channels of a high quality pre(neve clone, aurora, api, a-design,etc.) This is probably a dumb question but how do you go about doing it 2 tracks at a time with good pres and get all the tracks to line up right? Isnt the luxury of the 002 being able to do 8 at a time which i prefer for hooking up MPC 8 outs. Also would it be a bad idea to invest in the super high quality pres before upgrading the 002 AD conversion. thanks

Maybe ur best bet would be the api a2d cuz its a mic pre and converter, as for track alignment, i do it manually, kinda gives it my own swing.....and i can record 24 at a time.

Did you just use "luxury" and "002" in the same sentence?????

But seriously, the way you get everything to line up is by using MTC or SMPTE.

I agree with Chris. Not everybody has 8 outputs on their MPC, Keyboard, etc.

i use six of my outs from the MPC in the 002 and two from the triton. Ill lay the beat in 8 tracks and then lay down vocals once the beat is "dumped" into protools. Thats what the pres will be used for for now. until i can get rid of my triton le and get that new yamaha jawn.

Get an API A2D, and learn how to use MTC with the MPC to properly sync everything.

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

www.blacklionaudio.com its $450 wont break the bank... to answer ur question i personally think the pre is much more important than the AD conversion...

I second this solution It's exactly what I do. Also, I just used the A2D with a nice Gibson this past Saturday and it sounded great! +1 for A2D

with the same midi in/out used for MTC can you send instrumental midi info and control changes? or would i need to tie up both midis on the 2000xl for any vst usage. cause right now i use one midi pair for the tritonle and the other to trigger vsts etc. through the 002. all sequenced by the MPC. what pages or threads or books can you recommend to read up on this MTC and specifically the process of 2 tracking it at a time recording with dope pres? thanks
