Thread Starter | Record Stopping Effect?
I'm using my one, "how do I get this sound" pass on this one...is there an effect that can be used for that record stopping effect...most notably on sittin sideways-paul wall, end of chorus.... I'm using Cubase 4 |

| You could load the phrase or what ever you want the effect on in a sampler, then set the pitch bend range pretty high. Now you just have to draw in a pitch bend curve (probably parabolic) or record one live at the end of the phrase where you want the effect, what ever sounds best.

^^^ yep... the record slowing down effect is just an extreme pitchbend and timestretch simultaneously... its actually kind of hard to get the authentic sound w/ just the pitchbend. find someone w/ a cdj and record a slow stop of whatever you need from there.... |

I know that you are in Cubase, but I get that fx on Protools with a plug called Vari-fi, but I also heard the there is also a VST plugin called TapeStop for windows (mention before0 I found this other one too and I think is free: http://www.dancetech.com/aa_dt_new/h...id=3766&lang=0 But if you want to go the hard way, the bes way to do it is by using the pitch shift curve tool, with time compensation unchecked. Hope it helps |

I've had to do that effect a lot. In every case I exported the track to Adobe Audition and used a built-in effect that does the turntable thing INCREDIBLY well. Then I bring it back into the track in Cubase. I realize offline isn't the most fun way to do it, but I've not found a better way.

Too bad that CB4 doesn't have it's own version of Var-Fi. Tapestop is nice, but doesn't really do it for me |

| Record Stopping Effect?
Or you could just burn whatever you want on to cd and record the stopping effect in from a CDJ? - (One that can simulate vinyl obviusly)

Press a dubplate, put it on a Technics 1200, and let it slow down

I am surprised nobody has mentioned the Serato Scratch plug in. It is basically a Tech 12 emulation plug. Just instantiate it onto a track, load the audio you want to manipulate and to get that "record stopping" effect... I think just hitting the stop button should do it.
