Your right. For most average peeps the magic and sonic character of ensoniqs, rolands, emus ect is completely lost.Thats why they stopped making them.Same goes for all music equipment mentioned in this entire huge pro forum then

edit-ha ha just realised ive been noggined.Again

The SR16 is great for layering with another more beefy machine.Quite authentic sounding.Solid lil box.I remember the 505 being a lil flat sounding.Eighties machine funk.....

I programmed all of my early songs on the 505. It was the rhythmic backbone of every track until I got an Atari ST and started using sequencers.

I even remember a couple of times where I reprogrammed the 505's pad note assignments so I could program basslines on it, triggering my Alpha Juno 1.

I sold the 505 on USENET, years before eBay, and the Juno gave up the ghost after several years in storage. :(

The 505 was my first sequencer too along with a Juno 2 ! Great system. Made some nice sequences that way.

I've still got its rack-mount big brother, the D4, which I got for its (at the time) large array of traditional sounds. The unit is a little finicky (there's an IC that's a little too big for the circuit board that I sometimes have to push back into place), so one day I'll sample all the kits into Battery or Live.

Oh how I coveted the touch-sensitive keys of the Juno 2!

I was a KING I tell you!
Then there was that cartridge slot...

Actually, I loved that synth. Not sure I would really like it as much now.
Had it's own sound which kind of became the sound of many techno records...
I liked it for pads more.

My first was an asr-x pro. (I think Im somewhere in the early pages of this thread) Came home one day door kicked open and it was gone. I still would love to have one and probably will again one day. I loved how it sounded and the way the scratch pad handled samples while chopping. I also think starting out sampling with my ears instead of looking at a waveform did me a world of good. I have an mpc1000 and fantom xa now. Fantom sucks for sampling the mpc is ofcourse is an mpc but there are still things I miss about that ASR. Especially the sound

First drum machine I made a beat on was my neighbor's TR-808 at the age of 14.

At 15 I worked all summer (at $3.35 an hour!) to buy a TR-606.

From 1987 to today...

TR-707 > HR-16 > R-8 > Procussion > D-4 > R-8-M ... then I sampled all the sounds into a computer running an Emulator X3 and never looked back.

Sure, the R-8 had cool "feel" templates, but you can recreate those in any sequencer if you work at it.
